I am curious what makes this so below average? At least the first ingredient is meat unlike many other inexpensive cat foods. Grain free also.

Potato is a pretty common ingredient in otherwise fine pet foods. It is a carb source most dogs and cats process well. Costco's premium dry cat food is salmon and sweet potato, for example.

Dry cat foods have all kinds of crap; a lot of them have corn as the first ingredient. But this is canned, and not particularly cheap compared to the regular cheap brands. Cats don't need carbs, and though I understand the companies wanting to add filler, it seems weird to list it as a feature.
