I know there were memes all around the internet when it first came out. Apparently the game is SUPER woke. Like they went over the top to inject as much woke stuff as possible into the plot. It's sales never reached anywhere close to the first iteration of the game because of unwanted agenda that the writers felt they had to force on people.

The first Last of Us game has a 9.2 user review score on Metacritic:
https://www.metacritic.com/game/p...er-reviews

The Last of Us 2 has a 5.7 user review score on Metacritic:
https://www.metacritic.com/game/p...er-reviews

It sold way less copies than the first game. It's estimated that the 2nd game got about 8 million sales while the 1st game has had over 17 million copies sold.
Gross simplification while insulting the opposition and ignoring a big part. The most valid and biggest critique coming from the fans of the first was always the way the characters were handled and developed and what simple narrative they reduced this unnecessary sequel to. I won't go into it because of spoilers but Joel would never have made the mistakes he did. First game succeeded because of the story and characters and this sequel spat on that legacy.

If anyone wants real reviews of this sequel, check out Skill Up, RobinGaming (even has a critique on Naughty Dog as a studio), and Angry Joe on YouTube.
It is a emotional roller-coaster thats for sure. Despite what negative reviews for being too woke, it was actually a well put together game. It has top-tier gameplay mechanics as well as visuals that look next gen. I had played it on hard, not the hardest and it was challenging enough to not stress me out so I could enjoy the story. It is well worth $10.

I almost let this game slip past me because I jumped on the hate wagon that the youtubers and redditors spread around. I get it that the story was not written to what we wanted. Also it did piss me off too because of our beloved character. I still pushed on and then after awhile it captured me leaving me wanting to see whats going to happen next like a TV series that has you engaged. It kept me staying up all hours of the night. Crazy I know, to a game that everyone shit on. Others have their own opinion of this game and thats perfectly fine.

I feel like I'm one of the last of us to play this game. Was it as good as the first one?

I've nearly finished this game and the gameplay is A+, story was B+ at the least so far, people review bombing this game have some major insecurities to work out.

Imo, last of us 2 at same quality overall or better as playing uncharted 4, or civ 5, or Doom (2016), or horizon zero dawn. Not the same type of games mostly, obviously.

on being "super woke", without giving too much away, there are gay characters and a trans character - it also depicts intolerance towards some of these characters. So pretty much like real life (plus zombies).

It was better. If you can ignore the actual snowflakes' constant whining about their masculinity (or lack thereof) complex.

I really do not want to bring any partisan or political or social justice matters in the thread, but had to give that disclaimer.

It really is a better game in my opinion. Story is long. Action is better.

I recently played through the first part again after 6 or 7 years, and despite not remembering much from the first game from the first playthrough, I concluded I liked the part 2 better, for a game.

Nice story although this thread is for gamers not collectors.

Actually, other perspectives speculate that Joel actually would act like he did, for several reasons, that of course we can not go into. Think about why he made the final decision that he did in part 1. Think about the timeline gap between the two parts. Didn't the creator chime in on this somewhere?

Anyway, we need to stop. Lol.
You go speculate, I'll stick with what out-of-character foolishness was actually presented to push the plot into shock factor territory. Gameplay and AI is overrated too, likely by gamers too enamored with the pretty graphics. A lot more games will come out with hardware pushing graphics, choose who and what you support wisely. That's all I'll say. The reviews I mentioned covered everything better than me when this came out almost 2 years ago.
