Not in my experience (maybe I'm just using bad paper. Standard college ruled notebook paper bought at Walmart). However, the Bic Xtra Bold 1.6mm ballpoint pens are glorious! Super smooth (about the equivalent thickness of a 1mm gel pen). Everyone I give them to loves them. I buy mine in bulk from Amazon (though the price has shot up recently). Walmart only has the multicolor packs (maybe Office Depot or Staples has the single color packs).

Yes, on Rollback at my store since 6/10/22. Blue and black sold out at my store in the regular section. I did not look for a school supplies section.
