Before molded cases say you purchased a Craftsman assorted tool set all the sockets were sorted by drive size and possibly SAE and MM, thrown into a plastic bag and thrown into a cardboard box. Wrenches, accessories etc same thing happened. It was the customers duty to go through all the bags and inventory the pieces against a enclosed list to make sure all was there and no duplicates. Many times the sockets and other chromed parts has tons of scratches from shipping and rolling around in the bags. Then of course you had to come up with a way to organizing the bags of items. So although your point has validity, the alternatives are much worse.
While this 142pcs kit is a lot cheaper, the 192pcs (without wrenches) and 204pcs (with 12 wrenches) are much better kits. The 192/204 kits are much more complete kits. If its in your budget they are better options.

Thanks. I'll tried a few different stores around me but all four stores show $103. Would appreciate it if somebody provides a zip code that has them for $89.

I hate molded cases, no room for expanding the tool collection.

Thanks! The difference between the two is *only* the 12 wrenches, correct?

You should still go through molded case sets and inventory them because someone/something still has to place sockets in each holder and there's no guarantee that the correct socket was placed in each spot. I bought a 205 Stanley socket set and got an 11mm deep socket where there should have been a 10mm. Called Stanley about it and the CSR struggled to find the correct part number for the missing socket. They ended up sending me a black socket instead of a matching chrome one.

Agreed with you 100%! It is soooo much easier to do the initial inventory while the sockets are in the case AND to quickly inventory after every project is completed while in the blow mold case! 👍 I had the same thing happen to me regarding a Gearwrench Impact socket set ie I received two of the same sized socket from the factory AND wouldn't have known if I hadn't examined the set initially!
