Seems sketchy to be swallowing something that whitens your teeth, I realize its gum but as you chew it you are swallowing the whitening compound whatever it is,

It's Titanium Dioxide that whitens teeth. TD is considered safe for consumption unless you consume an unusually high amount of it (which is hard to do actually).

I still think Maalox is missing out on an untapped market: junk food medicine.

Titanium dioxide whitens teeth? 🤣 Did you just make that up?

What does titanium dioxide do to your body?
The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified titanium dioxide as possibly carcinogenic to humans, based on studies that showed more lung tumors in rats associated with breathing in titanium dioxide.Jul 26, 2022

Why did Europe ban titanium dioxide?
The decision was based on a recent assessment by the European Food Safety Authority, which had raised concerns over the potential bioaccumulation of titanium dioxide particles and associated risks of possible genotoxicity and carcinogenicity.

I am not sure why you feel a need to be so rude, but you could have simply looked up facts yourself instead of selectively choosing info to support what you wanted to say. Yes, TD does whiten teeth (this info is widely available, so I am confused why you'd think that I made it up). As to how effective it really is, who knows. It's no different from all other products that manufacturers sell with exaggerated claims. You also seem to conveniently forget that I wrote TD was safe "unless you consume an unusually high amount of it." So, yes, the substance "can be" harmful at a high dose, just like a lot of other substance we use in a number of other products. That's why FDA limits how much TD can be used in certain products, but they don't ban the substance. And, that's why this gum lists TD as the last ingredient because it only contains a very small amount to ensure that it's not harmful (otherwise, they wouldn't even be allowed to sell this gum). Try not to be so extreme in your thinking. The world or the science is not as black or white as you think. Take care.

Led by Xiaolei Wang and Lan Liao, the Nanchang team instead looked to titanium dioxide nanoparticles that had been modified with a polymer called polydopamine. When evenly applied to a tooth that was then irradiated with blue light, the nanoparticles produced a whitening effect similar to that of hydrogen peroxide, yet they were much less cytotoxic (toxic to cells). No significant damage to the enamel was detected.

To be fair TD has been recently removed from Dunkin Donuts frosting. It is even found in many other product even in daily vitamins which we do ingest And no one is advocating swallowing the gum and you have the option to buy something without this ingredient. It's ok to make an informed decision. Sadly many major packaged food companies were bought out by Cigarette Companies. True fact; Americans are the most obese people in the world. So when they say "Bet you can't eat just one" wasn't just a advertising slogan.
For instance, the widespread use of Potassium Bromate (added to flour to make
dough rise higher & turn stark white) & Azodicarbonamide, or ADA (a whitening agent for cereal flour), are common in the US, but not allowed in the EU for human consumption. ADA is a dough conditioner to make bread stay soft & spongy longer. It is also used to inject bubbles into certain plastics to manufacture soft, spongy goods such as yoga mats and flip flops, gaining it the name the "yoga mat chemical." Yum 😋Potassium Bromate has been found in lab animal studies to increase benign and malignant tumors in the thyroid and peritoneum (the membrane that lines the abdominal cavity) & cause significant increases in cancer of the animals' kidneys, thyroid, and other organs. The EU, Canada, and Brazil deemed this information enough to ban these products from their food supply. The US did not.
