Darn, I broke down and bought the Dreo about a month ago for about the same price. The Midea inverter window unit is INCREDIBLE - I would have preferred to stick with them. The (8000btu) window unit uses around 150w on average for a 12'x10' room in my warehouse. The portable unit will doubtlessly be much less efficient, but the dual hose is supposed to be a great help. I wish someone made an 8000btu inverter portable (the 12k units on the market are HEAVY which impedes the portable somewhat) but I would definitely grab this if I hadn't just bought the competitor.

The Dreo Twincool [amazon.com] is the same price and looks like the same unit, only in white. The Midea has a one year warranty and the Dreo has the same and apparently a 30 month warranty if you register on their website. I bought the Dreo yesterday and Amazon won't let me cancel even though it hasn't shipped. The Dreo has the same features and also has excellent reviews across retailers.

Regular window AC unit (8k-12k BTU) is heavy... So not sure how much weight you can cut off if you make it portable

Make sure you register promptly, I think it's limited to 30 days and the day it has me enter was purchase date, not delivery date - might be a hassle if you try to do it 29 days after receipt. I haven't played with it yet, but I think you're right and all these units are essentially the same product - including Toshiba, Whynter, and a few no-name white labels.

Probably not a ton, but the difference between ~50lbs and ~75lbs is enough to make getting it and out of my trailer a bit difficult - though admittedly I don't have to lift it into the window hole, big perk. I have a (completely inefficient) 8000btu portable unit that is only 37lbs - if I could get a 5000btu inverter portable unit at that weight, that would be the PERFECT portable camper unit. I suspect the price would be almost the same as this, though, so I understand why there isn't enough of a market.

I'm hopeful inverter ACs will become the norm soon, and we'll start seeing more options. The efficiency on the window unit is truly incredible. If window units were allowed in all campgrounds, I'd actually be able to power the darn thing for a few nights on 12v battery when I boondock, over a week using only a fraction of my EV battery! I haven't tested the Dreo yet but from the reviews I expect it to use about twice as much power as the window unit.

it's been a few months - but check out
https://www.costco.com/Midea-DUO-...75354.html

the white model MAP14HS1TWT is $500 at Costco, same in black is $700 at Amazon.
14,000 BTU (12,000 BTU SACC) with heat (can work as a heat pump in the winter)
