Before the "aren't extended editions" comments come rolling in… As a die hard Tolkien fan and someone who vehemently prefers the extended editions, it is nice to have a cheap, single solution to owning all 6 movies for when weak, feeble minded friends come over that can't handle the extended durations, or when you need a source to compare how inadequate the theatrical versions are in comparison.
When my 'friends' prefer the theatrical versions to the extended:

"Tell me, friend, when did you abandon reason for madness?!"

You can get the Ultra HD version for $60. Satisfies your attention span challenged friends as well as longer sessions with the extended version.

That is $60 per trilogy though, so $120 where as the deal is $30 for both trilogies if you are fine foregoing the extended editions and 4k.

Sold. I'll add this to my 4 other boxed sets of LoTR 😂. Not including my digital versions…

Google Play Movies has the 6-pack, extended edition, 4k (although reviews say 4k isn't real -- I just bought yesterday and haven't watched) for $37.99+tax

These are the only way to watch these films. The extended editions are for people who overeat and can't stop eating. It's like they're at the buffett table and they can't stop stuffing themselves. It's compulsive. Gluttony is what I think they call it.

The 4K upgrades are so massively better that unless you don't have a 4K HDR TV, these are a waste of money. The 6-movie bundle goes on sale for $30 all the time on iTunes, Vudu and other places. The HDR/Dolby Vision upgrade they did on all the movies is a night and day difference from these and the Dolby Atmos sounds amazing (assuming you have an Atmos sound system). I could never watch the plain versions again.

Sorry, but you lose credibility when you mention the 4k version is so much better, then proceed to mention streaming options. If you truly cared about better video and audio quality, you'd only mention the discs.

I bet the streaming version sounds great on your atmos soundbar. 😂🙄

Remember the extended editions may have it all but they aren't the director or editors vision for the movie. More ≠ better. There's a place for both editions.

I'm not sure I would agree especially with this trilogy.

Directors almost always have to cut the movie down, for one because of time restraints.
I'm willing to bet directors wouldn't make those cuts to follow their vision.

As you can tell the majority believe(including me) this trilogy more = better!
