I can vouch for that split tip not walking. At least, much less than a standard drill bit. I have the older all black version of this. I cracked the tip of my 1/4 inch bit. May just buy this.

I needed to drill through some 1/8 steel. I started with a HF bit from their super cheap yet well stepped set as I didn't have a DeWalt 7/16 bit. Boy, the HF bits gave me a hard time. For the second hole I sized down and grabbed a DeWalt bit. Night and day. Took a third of the time. Then i sized up with the HF for the sizing.

The "3 flats" that prevent spinning do work for good and bad. When your bit binds, you'll probably prefer spinning than cracking the bit or your wrists.

Solid bit set. Some what brittle. Missing some of the bigger sizes though.

Managed to break my 5/8 bit in one set and lose my other in another. This whole kit is about the same price as buying a single bit.

I have this set and have been pleased with the bits. The real deal is getting a 1/2" bit in the set. Buying a single 1/2" bit costs more than this set. For the price, getting it just in case you need it makes sense.

These drillbits do not work very well on anything other than wood. Quickly dulls if using on metal. A good cheap throwaway set.

You are not correct. I own a steel fabrication shop and use these daily. They are a quality budget bit and can be easily re-sharpened to extend their life. When drilling steel it's important to cool the bit. Just keep a small cup of water next to you and dip it periodically. I've drilled dozens of holes with these in 3/4" plate with zero issues. As far as i am concerned this is the best bit set in this price range and will perform very well for most people

The answer is technically yes. You COULD use cobalt alloy bits for everything, but you shouldn't. You should have cheap bits for wood, plastic, and soft metals like aluminum, copper, and mild steel. Every use of a cutting edge dulls it even if it's just a little, so best practice is to keep your expensive hard steel bits out of sight until absolutely needed for an occasion where the cheap bits literally won't cut it. And you shouldn't use either for masonry. Need a 3rd set of bits meant for impacting for that.
