Can you have multiple of this same card?

Yes, I have 2. The first one I got was a BofA CCR partner cards from my alma matter NYU. Here's a list of the partners that's about 2.5 years old so I'm not sure how up to date it is.

And here's a follow up discussion from a year ago about how some of them were eliminated. 😟

The money doesn't have to be in the checking account... Merrill Lynch accounts work as well. That could be a retirement account or investment account. Not only is a ML account the obvious choice to have your money in over a checking account, it bypasses the 3-month requirement. You're able to activate Preferred Rewards after 30 days.
You still do need a checking account along with your ML account to satisfy PR requirements, but it can just have a single dollar in it.

You shouldn't mislead people about a rewards program you're not actually familiar with.

(corrected a typo)

Using ML has fees right? How high are the fees to use them??

Like most brokers, it has fees for somethings and not for others. Haven't seen a significant difference in them compared to places like Fidelity or Etrade.

Most BOA clients got is Merrill Edge, a low-cost version of Merrill Lynch. Merrill Edge is a self-investing solution. Merrill lynch offers guided investment and advisor based investment ( fees associated)

It depends on if you have other accounts with them and your situation. My card numbers were stolen at a restaurant once. They made a fake card and charged thousand in another state. They send me a new card and removed all the charges very quickly. I've had no problems with BofA.

Until you do. Customer for 13 years and had one problem and they literally laughed at my inquiries through the phone. Worst CS experience I have ever had. In my experience AMEX and CHASE are much better

I've had this card for a long time, be warned that account support on them are a complete disaster. I still use it often for the cash back, but for anything with a sketchy merchant or any reasonably important purchase, I use a different card. Every dispute I've done with bofa has been denied after 60 - 75 days with no explanation. Once my card was stolen and used a few states away - even that dispute was denied.

Second that. Had a problem after 13 years of being a customer. They denied any issue....wrote a report online, they called wanting to fix, swapped to a new CS agent who laughed at the idea of them looking back into the same problem. Ended with me respectfully asking to close all accounts. 13 years and was treated like garbage.

Just hope maybe someone else will read this and not make the same mistake of giving this company their business

I just got approved for this card today before I saw this thread. I received a mailing about it offering a $300 reward and 18 months of 0% APR. My credit limit is $28500. So, seems like a good deal.

I did get this card before this post for the cash back and shopping category selections. My experience is: a day or two after I received the card I noticed Lowe's had kitchen cabinets on clearance and I was in the market for them so I used this card to spend the $1000 in 90 days for the $200 bonus which I did receive and also set my category to home improvement so I got even more cash back. However, when I went to make the purchase the card was immediately declined. For some reason spending over $1,000 in a national store where the card was ran was considered fraud. I had to call them and went thru 4 different people to finally get to the right person for the issue and sat on the phone for over an hour standing at the Lowe's register after they were closed. I immediately had a very bad taste in my mouth about the card first time I used it. Then the agent who finally got it unlocked kept babbling on about things after I've already been on for so long so I say, "sorry sir but I really gotta get going" and he replied "LISTEN"… yelling at me and acting like I need to stay on the line to listen to his 10 minute long whatever it was he was saying so I hung up on him. Couldn't believe he did that.

Pretty standard practice to block 1st charge, esp is a big purchase, they want to be sure it's you and not someone who took your mail/card.
Yes it's embarrassing standing in line and calling the card company.

All my big and important purchases are done using this card. I avoid any kind of sketchy online transactions and not worth my time calling any card's customer support to save a few dollars and risk card security breaches.

Also, I usually make the payments in-store using Apple Pay or Walmart Pay and many of these transactions track as online purchases along with my preferred client bonus. Every quarter I max out on my online category cashback.

Lol. I know this post is nearly a year old, but let me just say that if you approach it this way, you will eventually get burned. Luke is right, I have had all major cards over the last 20 years, and BOA was the only one in which Customer Service seemed almost non-existent. You want to risk it for $200 be my guest but when one of those "reputable" merchants screws you over, don't expect BOA to care even the slightest bit

Yes, it is a standard practice, which is why a company/customer service rep should know how to handle it as fast and efficient as possible. I understand this person's frustration simply because the few interactions I've had with BOA CS have been unprofessional to say the least. They definitely have let their customer service go down the toilet.

Honestly I've had probably 20 different cards in my lifetime (love new customer promos), and I have never had another company even come close to the level of incompetence as Bank of America.

**You can dispute that, but I will just do like they do and ignore your concerns.
