I've also had this card for several years, except mine is a World Mastercard, not a Visa Signature like they're offering now. I haven't had any problems with it. And I always pay off my balance online on time.

One thing I'm not sure about is whether or not old cards get grandfathered into the enhanced categories, like the 2% back at grocery stores and wholesale clubs, etc. Does anyone know?
Just did a quick check on my existing card (opened a few years ago)-- still getting 2% (before upto 75% preferred bonus) on grocery stores and warehouses (Costco, BJS etc.).

Is it worth it? Can bofa do better than my current employer's retirement account? Bofa rewards don't seem to do much for me, as stated in my previous comment. I do have appointment coming up with Merrill advisor on an cd maturity and will ask about IRA.
Merrill Preferred Deposit is currently at 4.92%. I generally move dividends there once or twice a year.

So either $75 cash back with no BoA status, or $131,25 (5.25%) with plat or better status on that $2500 spend.

Why? For anyone who can afford Plat status with BoA the rewards structure is vastly better.

Plus they don't have a long history of creating fake accounts for their customers like WF does.
So, after spending 2500 (per quarter) in my choice category in addition to groceries and wholesale club, this essentially just becomes a 1% cashback card?[/quote]
after you pick a category (gas, home-improvement, or online-shopping etc.), you will get 3% on that category, or 3% + upto 75% (i.e. 5.25%) if you are a BofA preferred client.

All my big and important purchases are done using this card. I avoid any kind of sketchy online transactions and not worth my time calling any card's customer support to save a few dollars and risk card security breaches.

Also, I usually make the payments in-store using Apple Pay or Walmart Pay and many of these transactions track as online purchases along with my preferred client bonus. Every quarter I max out on my online category cashback.
How quarterly is counted by BofA -- calendar 4 quarters such as 1/1-3/31 ... 10/1-12/31, or based on each customer's billing cycle?

These are counted as calendar quarters 1/1 - 3/31 and not based on billing cycles.

Is that a savings account for Merrill? 4.92% is good, my savings at us bank is at 4.5%.

I love these cards b/c of Preferred Status. But what irks me with spending online is that if it's returned, your Quarterly $2500 5.25% limit isn't returned back to you. So if you pay $1000 for a TV and then return it, you now have only $1500 to get that 5.25% return for the quarter (i.e. not reinstated back to $2500).

That's why you apply to multiple or as many as you want to all on the same day and get dinged 1 hard inquiry.
Pretty sure that's with a mortgage not credit cards. Different cards could pull from different reporting companies.

This doesn't make sense at all. Let's say I have 100k available to sit in a checking account (I don't).
I can let that money sit in Bank of America to get "preferred awards status", which after three months gives me an additional 2.25% cashback on purchases in a single category (say online stores like amazon) which assumes I know what category a purchase will be applied to (I don't).

OR I can put that 100k in treasury bills that return 5% non-competitively over 13 weeks... who the hell would pick first option???

Edit: I have nothing against this card or this deal, but definitely don't go into this card for preferred rewards...
You can optimize further. BofA counts u total assets across Merril as well. You can open IRA/Trading account and also benefit from Platinum Honors. You need to have crazy amt of money, if anyone allows to sit their 100K in checking Smilie

However, using Charles S (after TD merger) for intraday trading (Thinkorswim FTW).

It's unreliable... don't expect any service from this bank except transaction support. You are in for disappointment.

Old discover days, are gone.

In the OP in the way the sentence is formed it should say "if Spent", not "if Spend"

Uh, 1 and 2 are categorically false.

Have had this card for years, and have done online bill pay (through the website or the BoA app) the entire time.

Also have always received a paper statement, email notifications for statements, and can access pdf statements online going back to 2016 (when I opened the card).
Bank of America sucks for many reasons, but I don't think these are them. Maybe the bad CS.
