You have to verify your account as a military member.

Why would people buy this when you can get a Apple watch ultra 2 for a lot cheaper that does more?
Different markets. Apple Watch is a more rounded out smart watch with fitness features. Garmin watches are more fitness focused with some smart features added in. Biggest differences are battery life, gps accuracy, sensor tracking for various fitness activities, etc. For typical users, Apple Watch probably is the better choice, but for those wanting the best fitness watches Garmin is a better choice.

Two different focuses. The Apple Watch is deeply integrated with the iPhone and this also limits the functionality when a cell connection is required.

The Garmin Epix Pro is more of a fitness tracker. The Epix Pro doesn't need to be tethered to a phone to work. If you're a hiker in the mountains, you don't need a cell connection for your maps to work. You have downloaded maps on the watch. It also more capable for cyclists, you can use it as a cycling computer to pair different sensors to it. It gives recovery data for training, it provides VO2 max data for swimming and cycling, something the Apple Watch only provides for running. In short, if you're into competitive events such as triathlons or races, the Garmin is a better training tool.

I posted this in another Garmin thread where someone pointed out certain insurance providers give a discount. Normally you have to log into insurance first but this URL I pulled seems to bypass this part. I believe one or two people used it successfully but YMMV. Just adding it as an option for those that don't have the military discount option at Target.

There's a link in the small print advertising you can get 20% off up to $40 if you're paying with Klarna the first time too.

I'm not in the apple ecosystem, and prefer using Garmin over the Apple watch. I've been using the Fenix series watches for a couple years, and generally enjoy a longer battery life over Apple or other brand smartwatches.

My main reasons are (1) I'm an Android user (but I do think the Apple Watch Ultra is interesting/cool and would probably give that shot if I were an iphone user) (2) battery life on this is way better, mine goes for 11-12 days w/o having to charge it (and having the display always on), (3) there's a light! and it's surprisingly useful.

Two things I don't like about the Epix Pro given the price (1) no LTE/cellular option and (2) no speaker/microphone (can't take memos or answer phone calls or do voice to text).

I have this watch and it's a BEAST! Buy it and activate BEAST MODE!

The screen is gorgeous. I use an Samsung s23 ultra so Apple watch doesn't appeal to me. Also I can get 7-12 days with always on display turned on.

I do agree there should be a microphone/speaker/cellular access. I'm sure they'll be building those features into the next version.

Also I hate running but since Garmin gameifies fitness I find myself running to achieve a higher v02max score. Currently at 48 but would love to get it to 50. Endurance score also is affected by all athletic activities you do so it's not a runner centric watch. Finally having all of the USA maps on it with topo lines for backcountry adventures makes it a great navigational aid and lets me conserve battery life on my phone for multiday backpacking trips. Much easier to recharge the watch than my phone due to the battery size. I think it's around 315Mah.

I feel like "military members only" would be a good addition to the title.

If you're wondering why some people find this comment funny... this is exactly what people say about Apple products :-D

Trailforks has much better maps and GPS on your phone still works without cell service. Just did a long hike in the Smokies with it.

Apple watch Ultra 2 don't need cell service to use if you dont want to and also has real satellite SOS service when needed. Which Garmin can't do either. Apple Maps are one of the best and getting better all the time. Fitness apps on Apple watch are much better as well and updated more frequently. Lets not forget you can get discounts on Apple watches easily.

You can download trail forks maps to the Epix, you can't do the same for the Apple Watch Ultra.

Correct, cell service isn't required on the Apple Watch Ultra but if you don't have cell service Apple Maps becomes less useful, very few people download maps to their Ultra before going hiking in remote areas, and Apple has far less offline maps than Garmin does. As someone who hikes and backpacks, I can tell you the Apple Watch Ultra has a ways to go to match the offline maps Garmin has today.
