The cap on the drinking chute actually screws down and has a decent gasket..
The magnetic part is just how it stays flipped open when you drink.

The bottles are fantastic, zero complaints from me on that aspect. I prefer the straw cap over the mag cap, I'm debating getting one of these just to have a spare stainless bottle.

Can anyone comment on the leak-proofness of the magnetic cap? Specifically, will it hold up to the pressure changes on an airplane? That always seems to make my cheaper bottles leak.

It hasn't been a problem for me on flights. Tho I use mine for coffee not water. But as long as the top is screwed on, I've never had it leak, on airplane trips or otherwise.
