I tried something similar recently with egg whites and I had the best success if I dipped the ring in egg first, let that cook on the pan just for twenty or thirty seconds to create a seal, and then poured the rest of the egg into the ring.

Mason jar lids work fine, are multi-purpose and can be tossed in the dishwasher.

I assume you wait until the pan is hot so the egg starts cooking as soon as it hits, creating a barrier that prevents it from flowing beneath the ring.

Yeah, plus that's a lot of work. You can't use a can opener at the bottom of the can like one would at the top.

I'm all for thrifty and multipurpose but don't think they are intended to take on higher than boiling temperature. Who knows what chemicals it's going to release at double the boiling temperature.

Im sure he meant the rings. mason jar rings are metal, usually, stainless steel or Tin plated steel.

the eggs rings in the deal are silicone with plastic.

When I worked in fast food many moons ago, we cooked eggs in basically the same thing. We would squirt a small amount of butter around the lip and that would kinda hold the egg in and also keep the egg from sticking to the ring.
