The router table vs using the router freehand, is akin to using a table saw vs a circular saw to cut wood. You're going to get far greater precision using the table, and for some things it's essential. I'm not sure I would want to try to cut grooves in the side of a board freehand, for something like tongue and groove door panels, but the router table makes it fairly easy with the right bit.

I've been watching this for a while. Router is good, but the left side of the fence on the table can be difficult. Still, this is a great deal at this price for the router and table.

Bought this one a couple months ago, loved it. As @Frankie251 mentioned, the left fence need some quick fix (put some paper behind the board then tighten it) then it works perfectly. If you are looking for a router+table that is much more powerful than a palm router, this is an unbeatable deal, seriously

What exactly is wrong with the fence?

FaithfullCable243, could speak to it better than I could. I don't own it, well I do now, but haven't received it yet, but have read tons of reviews and watched several YouTube videos on it. They all say the left side of the fence can be difficult to keep stationary. In other words it moves, but FaithfullCable243, seems to have a fix for it. I'm will to give it a try at this price. I guess you could always make a fence for it out of a nice straight board.

I own this router but not the table. I just use it around the house and on misc projects. It's all the router I will ever need. Great tool at a great price!

This could be my first router. Would use mainly for edges. What's the advantage of the router table over using the fixed base router?

I don't own this, but I have read the reviews. I'm guessing this Skil suffers from the same malady that plagues my Ryobi router table. The fence is designed to accommodate a jointing type function, allowing you to adjust the thickness (or rather "thinness") of the left half of the fence. Unfortunately the supporting structure is plastic and permits the left side of the fence to flex a bit, causing uneven edges and substantial sniping on the trailing end of anything you process.

So the left fence and right fence were not aligned 100% (not fully straightly aligned), the left fence was a bit (less than a 1mm but you can feel it) off. But the fences on both sides are adjustable.
My solution was to fold a piece of paper a couple times and put it between the left fence and fence clamp, this pushed the left fence slightly towards me. After that you re-tighten the fence clamp, problem solved.
That is an easy fix so not a deal breaker.

The table is more kinda like an "accessory" of the fixed based router. You can mount the router to that table, so when you wanna do dado routing, the table gives you better precision.

If you look at the shapes of router bits, and use your imagination, that should explain it to you.
