I use them for general short hikes, pickleball and other light activities.
I also have a venture pal packable pack from Amazon. These EB ones are nice and more substantial by a little bit.

I paid $10 and $15 for generic ones, and have stopped using either of them due to their poor quality issues, so in contrast, I would have saved time and money by going to a reputable purchase outright. IMHO, $20 is as low as you should go in this category.
This was a previous runner-up in a Wirecutter review of best daypacks, and I've used mine on dozens of flights, outings, and amusement park visits, and am happy with it. Wirecutter marked it down for concerns over durability, but I personally have a difficult time imagining this bag getting damaged unless you're intentionally taking a sharp object to it. Sure, it's not ripstop, but I have zero concerns putting this down on asphalt or having it glance against twigs and bushes in the woods. I don't think I could tear this bag with my bare hands, though I suppose if I dragged in on concrete with a water bottle in it, it wouldn't take long for it to rip. Not sure any bag in this category can withstand that.
As others have mentioned, no padding, no sternum strap, or no waist strap -- any of those would have helped with stability, as this bag tends to flop around if you carry higher density items like spare batteries, water bottles, phones, sunscreen, etc, but this category is meant more for helping carry extra layers and lightweight items like snacks.
What I really like -- the vertically long zipper in the front is pretty unique -- I stuff a thin pack of wet naps in there, and I find that it's very convenient to access. The foldaway double-sided zipper offers me a convenient place in the bag to hook a small flashlight and AirTag.
What I wish was better -- the water bottle mesh is about 4" high, and all but small water bottles can slide out unless you're careful. Wish this was a touch higher. I also with the bag had inner mesh sleeves for better organization. While it would add cost, it wouldn't add much weight or bulk to have 4-5 mesh sleeves here and there so I wouldn't have to go digging to the bottom for small items.
Either way, a solid buy for $20.
