I wish they made a 4" flat down light. I had to get the 5/6" version.

But still way better than the nanoleaf matter downlights I bought. People complain about the pricing of the Hue lights, but after all these years they are still the most reliable that work with Apple Home.

Nah. I looked it up and they are considered slim. I have duct work above and I need the slim version to fit it in there. This is the 5/6 inch version.

I'm looking to get lighting for living/family rooms and a basement room I'm building out. I see this is the lowest price ever for these....but haven't done much research on can lights. Are there alternatives that are less expensive but still reliable/good? Or is Hue what you want to do these days? I know I'll have to buy a bridge as well. We are looking to use Apple home as we have homepods and an ecobee already.

TIA

Edit, reading is hard. I see this are for retrofitting existing recessed lights, which I do not have. Stand alone 6" are $60 per light, which is wild. I'm out.

Do you need the changing colors and or individual bulb control? If not I would honestly get regular dimmable light bulbs in whatever you favorite color temperature is and then a smart switch on the wall. Then you never have to worry about the switch being on or off and it makes replacements a lot cheaper.

Color changing would be nice to have. Individual bulb control would be nice too. Looking at $400/room plus a hub is pretty wild though for lighting.

So there are two versions, one with a screw in that fits into existing cans/outlets and the new slim that just has the metal box for electric hookup. I don't know how much slimmer you're going to get than that one.

I see that. non-retrofit ones are $60/light, and 15% off only works on 1 light ($9 off) so that's not worth doing. I'll wait and see what other deals popup.

Ya those newer ones don't go on sale much, I think the best deal I got was with the hue website news letter discount.

I don't *need* slim. I'd take regular sized cans, just need non-retrofit ones, as I do not currently have anything in the ceiling.

It is crazy what HUE are charging for each light. I remodeled my whole house about a year ago and bought 8 boxes of 12 lights in each box. Most of the recess lights nowadays allow temperature setting and I put in smart switches all over my house. I had different temperatures in almost every room and I am very happy with them. I set different levels of brightness depending on the time of day and with smart switches they are automatically done every day.

I think different colors is cool but everyday usage might be extreme, especially if at this price.

Had to share my recent experience. I bought these and also the Philips WiZ variation.
The price of the Wiz are less ($16 per light) and I compared both in the same room.
The WiZ actually has a larger light radius, but the dimming doesn't get as low as the Hue. The color quality seemed very close if not identical (compared to my Kasa Smart Bulbs which I think have a better color quality).
I connected them directly to wifi so can't speak to the hub aspect of it.
I used Alexa to control my lights.
For my use, I ended up returning the Philips Hue and going with the Philips WiZ... hope I don't regret it, but that's a significant cost savings and I was really trying to find any reason to go with the Philips Hue because of my perceived quality of them.
If anyone has any reason for me to go with the Philips Hue please let me know, I'm still in my return window Smilie
