Rice farms cannot guarantee 100% that their crops are free of weevils and their eggs. When buying any brand of rice from any retailer, you need to freeze the rice for a few days before storing it. This will kill the eggs to prevent them from hatching.
This is fear mongering so I'm going to report this post with a thumbs down (and hope other do the same in order to enrich this community). While brown rice it does have a bit more heavy metals than regular white rice, the amount is negligible. It's like saying Tuna has Mercury in it or Chocolate has heavy metals in it. It's true but the amount is very negligible. Also, the reason you used for why brown rice is brown is false as well. Brown rice is brown because the brand part of the rice grain (which contains many of the B vitamins, minerals, and fiber by the way) is intact and not polished away to make it white.
Recent reviews mention bug infestation...

I wouldn't buy non-organic.
The organic brown rice at whole foods is similarly priced (although might be for 3lbs not 5). Not the basmati brown rice but the regular one. The organic basmati brown rice is more expensive.

There is a bit of truth to both sides of the arsenic posts in this thread.
Yes, brown rice does contain arsenic. As does white rice but brown rice has more because the arsenic tends to accumulate in the outer layer and white rice gets rid of most of that layer due to polishing. (And with that also goes away the nutrients as has been rightly mentioned in this thread)
The amount of arsenic in brown rice is not significant enough that it could cause health issues if you eat it occasionally. If you are a native rice eater, then eating brown rice every day could "probably" cause issues in the long run. As they say too much of anything can be bad.
Based on some research I had done on this subject a few years back, I recollect that among brown rice 1) Organic 2)California grown 3)Long grain basmati rice had the least amount of arsenic. You can get that in some stores like Whole Foods and Sprouts farmers market. Yes! They are unfortunately more expensive, but if you have the means, definitely choose that type of brown rice for better health. As a bonus, that rice tastes excellent too!

Their price at my local store is $4.49 for 32 oz. or $5.99 for 80 oz. which is nowhere near "similarly priced." Amazon deal is $0.056/oz. while Whole Foods price is $0.075 or $0.14/oz depending on which size package you buy. That's at least 34% higher in price.
Yeah I meant the 32oz. So it's 2lbs not 3. Either way I'd rather pay the premium for organic. Rice is not something I want to mess with without some assurance of quality. I don't eat it everyday, more like once a week, so the price is mitigated.

Personally, i try to make sure stuff I eat is organic when possible. And it's not because I'm rich, far from it. I just think nothing is more important than your health.

The arsenic comes from the soil where it used to produce cotton and later converted to produce rice, mainly US southern states. It was perfectly fine to use arsenic as insecticide for cotton since the cotton contains very little of it and we are not ingesting the cotton product anyway. Unless the amazon rice label provides the information on the state that it was produced, I would not risk it.

Yes, some pragmatism is in order.

Cheaper at Walmart for the Walmart brand brown rice. Not a good deal.

Brown rice has arsenic. That's why it's brown.
Better not eat apples with that logic. Apple seeds naturally contain HCN (cyanide!!)
