Been lugging around the big chunky 1/2" impact as my tire change kit for years. Would this replace it? Strong enough to take off lugs? Such a small form factor.

Exactly what I'm looking for too. Just watched some YouTube reviews, looks like this has plenty of power for lug nuts and beyond. Think I'll bite.

Hmmm I don't know the exact model I have and it's about 6-8nyears old but the current big chunky one puts out 9600 lb in of torque. This one only does 3600 lb in... So like 40% of the power...
mine is dcf 899h. just comparing different tools. still pulling trigger on this deal. can never pass up a battery and bag.

For compact impact wrenches that pack a big punch the top contenders are this one or the new Milwaukee M12 stubby that just got released (2563-20).

Is that a power stack battery? If not, does it make a difference?
No powerstack. The video linked above I watched they compared both batteries with this tool and power stack didn't make much difference besides being smaller and less weight.

Your older and bigger DCF899 has basically double the torque of this compact DCF921, approx 600 ft/lb vs 300 ft/lbs.
But it's twice as big at 8.8" long and weighs 6 lbs vs 5" long and 2.4 lbs.( And probably cost twice as much back in the day.)

The 3/8 could remove lug nuts so this has plenty power

I have 2 cars and a small SUV, it does lugs on those with EASE.
Did it on and F250 (I don't think it was a 350) and it took 5-ish secs of impacting to get it.
So can depend on your vehicle. Like someone else said, over torqued can be a different story. My cars it'll still do it without issue, but on that F250, assuming they WEREN'T over torqued at the time, I'm not sure it would do it.
When I take my cars racing, this is the impact I take for changing wheels.

Just adding to the chorus, but yes, this unit is awesome. I use it pretty much exclusively......lugs are no issue. I've also used it to remove axel nuts off my rusty jeep, with the hub in the air and not secured via brake/ground/bar, etc. It just zipped them off.
