This is an interesting and unusual ratchet/socket set because it's a small 1-ratchet set that seems like it would be ideal for household use, but it's a lot of deep sockets, which are more commonly needed for machinery, cars, lug nuts. In fact, every socket size is duplicated (regular and deep). The Kobalt ratchet and 6-point sockets are good quality, but if you're working on machinery and cars you'll probably want a bigger set with a 1/2" ratchet.

The previous complaint about the Kobalt cases are very common. Brittle plastic and the sockets jammed into the lid are a pain.

For my money, for a compact set for the household, I'd choose the Husky 94-piece for on sale for $49.97. The ratchets are not quite the same spec as Kobalt but pretty close, and there only a dozen deep sockets (the bigger sizes), but the set has a more complete range of sockets (from 4mm and 5/32" up to 1"), and a useful magnetic bit driver, and a durable and better-designed case where everything sits neatly on one side.

The tools are decent quality, the case S U C K S. Hard/Stiff easily breakable plastic.
The ratchets suck, I've broken 4 already in the past 6 years where it doesn't engage any of its tooth anymore.

So is this a good really good deal? I personally don't have any Kobalt tools.
i have a 3/8" ratchet a socket set from 2015 that is still flawless despite heavy use including a lot of regular maintenance and suspension work on cars

I bought it the day I listed this and it seems pretty well put together, haven't had a chance to test the ratchet yet.

You normally won't find this many sockets in a set for this price, that alone makes it worth it. Sockets are also stamped and not laser etched so the markings won't vanish over time with use.

The case is fine, on some of the smaller sockets it can be a little difficult to get out but the trick is to pull them from the top of the socket not the 3/8 side and they come out.

The other guy saying the case is flimsy or S U C K S may need to elaborate more because I've definitely used worse cases. It seems durable enough for a typical homeowner.

Overall good buy or gift for someone and beats spending $100 on one of the annual Christmas boxes that contain a lot of fillers and take up way more space.

For what it's worth I've had my Kobalt set for about 10 years now the sockets themselves are pretty solid. I have not had any issues with them despite me abusing them beyond their design. (Electric impact use from time to time) but they're ratchet are not up to snuff. At least not to my usage I guess but for what it's worth I've only broken two or three other brands in the past 25 years of mechanical work. Stanley, Crescent, and the Kobalt. I have basically every major brand ratchet brand out there including Snap-On and Matco and only 3 brands have failed and Kobalt one failed 4 times. The gears are just weak for higher torque usage and they have a lot of back drag so not ideal in tight spots where you can't hold the socket still. My usage is fairly professional as I mean, I have professional level tools at work, but I use these at home but I am a mechanic.

Any good metric only sets out there? I already have millions of SAE and never had to use them since early 2000s.
