Word of warning, you better know what you're doing or you will damage your enamel and cause more issues.

Get a electric toothbrush with a gentle cycle (2mins, 30sec quadrants), and extra soft bristles. Use a name brand toothpaste, and floss. You'll get almost no tarter if you brush at least once per day... prob no tarter if 2x per day. Electric toothbrush vibrates much faster than a human hand, and the 30sec quadrant timer ensures consistent coverage/time for a clean. Don't use deep clean cycle, or firm bristles... that will just chew up your gums. If you brush and floss everyday, there will be minimal to no build up.

This is amazing since in my region all the dental offices are ran by scam artists who only do an xray and ask for $3500-$4500 for a deep cleaning. A little hard to use at first, but I use the needle point to scrape the hard tartar off the back of my teeth. I also use CPC mouthwash and a rx I got from abroad - metrogyl dg forte - to help with my perio-whatever. My gums are terrible. But this has been helping a lot. You'd be surprised how much flossing leaves behind.
