If you don't have these, preventing just one water leak is worth it all. My next step is to outfit all my immediate family with at least water leak detection

It's important to get the water shutoff in case you're not home when leak occurs. There are two different types, with bulldog being one of the two.
The thing that sold me is that you can individually link each alarm to the water shut off valve. It is a separate procedure. Easy, but needs to be done on each one. Once linked you don't need electric power or wifi if it detects a leak. As these are battery powered they will work in a power failure and it will shut off the water supply. Since there's no wifi or electricity you wouldn't get notified about it as you normally would, but at least the water damage has stopped. That's important in areas of the country that get winter storms similar to Texas's ice storms a couple years back when electricity goes out all over. Electricity goes out, you lose your heat and pipes begin to freeze. When they freeze they crack and begin to leak. The straight WiFi only water shut off systems wont help you in that situation. This does.

A water leak doesn't sound too bad to me.
