It's a refurb and sometimes HP refurbs are unreliable.

That is one beefy processor. I would like to see it handle 49 people on Zoom, which is the only thing I do that my slower chromebooks are laggy, though the voice is fine, which is really the only thing that matters for my applications.

Microcenter's return policy is top notch in my experience.

The issue lies with HP. Last time I bought an HP certified refurb from Microcenter, I got 3 lemons in a row after exchanging (the Wifi cards were somehow bad and kept disconnecting on all 3) and finally Microcenter said I can't exchange anymore and I'll have to deal with HP warranty department directly. Unsurprisingly, HP warranty sucks.

Replace a wifi card is not hard - but it may not be a bad wifi card, then it is quite a hassle. I bought quite a few hp laptops, not yet had a wifi issue
