You don't really need a video, it's pretty simple to explain in words. You watch your own video files and stuff from other devices + they recently added some free channels.

This. I am a tech guy too and I don't really want to spend so much time managing my media and tinkering with settings to get metadata to populate properly or have the files named a certain way. This works out of the box and is relatively low maintenance. Time saved is extra time to actually consume the media.
Once in a while, I would have issues with the library not refreshing new media but never really takes more than a few minutes of troubleshooting to get it to show up.

For example, I have a dedicated PC for running a Plex server 24/7 that has all my "Linux ISOs". I can then watch any of my own files on my phone, TV, laptop, etc. from anywhere (including outside the house) through the Plex app. You can share your library with someone else by adding their email address. Then they can just log into Plex with their email and be able to watch the stuff that you shared (you can specifically choose which libraries to share/not share).
Someone else linked the benefit of the Plex Pass. I purchased it mainly for hardware transcoding and the ability to skip intros & credits to TV shows, and honestly that alone was worth it, aside from wanting to support the developers.
With streaming services being dog-s**t lately in terms of incorporating ads, charging more per month, limited content unless you subscribe to like 5 different services (at ~$10-$20/month each), downloading Linux ISOs and hosting your own content seemed to have gotten a bit more traction again lately.
Edit: I forgot to add that you can use Plex for free. The Plex Pass just adds some features and is a good way to support the developers if you really enjoy it.
