These are actually nice. They still need to be plugged into an outlet (they're not battery powered) but the scent seems to be much stronger than the typical plug-in types (that hang off of the outlet directly). The button on top of this one to push a stronger scent is nice to have (basically if you want to push a lot of fragrance into the room, I think this sets a 45-minute output at a heavier amount).
Only gripe is that the scent refills are a bit pricey and it just eats through them. The 5- or 6- packs of the scents can be had sometimes at places like Sams Club for about $15, or 3 packs sometimes on sale for $10 at Amazon/Walmart/Target, but normally expect to spend about $20 for a 4-pack. I'd also recommend smelling them in-store since some of them aren't as nice as expected, and you don't want to be stuck with too much of them.
The '50 day' claim refers to keeping these on the lowest setting. I think that there are 4 settings, I usually keep mine on the highest setting and it does a good job filling a (closed) bedroom which is about 12 x 24 feet in size, with vaulted ceilings. On the highest setting, you get about ~15-20 days of freshness, so cost is about ~$8 per month per room.
Tried several others and liked these the most. There is no smoke (like some of the other oil diffusers/misters) and no noise (like older spray-style ones)

YMMV - Might not be an issue if you don't have pets
I did try refilling one of the "Airwick Essential Mist Diffuser" with essential essential oils before and it didn't really work right. Those ones were a little different than the Febreze, but I haven't tried since.
