I'm an owner of the original Kindle Scribe. It's a great piece of hardware, but it's software is sorely sorely sorely lacking. There's basic functionality that you would expect, missing.

So tech problems someone else mentioned put aside for a memont, The first edition Kindle Scribe was a great piece of hardware For someone who just wants a top of the end Kindle.

But for somebody looking for a robust digital note taker / annotator / etc, I highly highly recommend looking at the Scribe's competitors as well.
A lot of negative reviews reporting edge bleeding, blurry pixels, and dark spots. Wonder if the price drop is clearing out inventory before they get fixed ones in. I'm going to wait.
Remarkable - Great for note taking but okay reader. Also, non-Pro model has no backlight.

Kindle - Great for reading but just okay at note taking.

Remarkable supports epub and PDF, you'll need to remove the DRM & convert your Kindle books with an app like Calibre.

I also see '10% back on the amount charged to prime visa card, making the effective price to be ~$293+tax.'
YMMV

Don't have prime card, do you need to have Amazon prime membership?

its bad this still has just 1GB of RAM.

The software is designed to work with this much RAM, you are not running arbitrary software on it.

you will have issues with this amount of RAM. I see threads like https://www.reddit.com/r/kindlesc...be_issues/

Not a RAM related problem

15.3 oz vs 16.9 oz for an iPad

40 hours of battery with wireless off, no writing, brightness at 13 (which I assume is low)

iPad 10th generation at 280 or less now seems like a better buy to me
If you are writing it does not compare. If you are doing a lot of reading it does not compare. The Scribe is way better at both. If you want to do anything else stick to an iPad.

I never see the Remarkable 2 on sale but it is very good for notetaking.

Also stacks with the 20% off trade-in offer, making it effectively 39% off. Had an old Fire Stick laying around that I used for trade-in.
