This thing is small, the thermal will be bad with 4080. You will not get use of the full 4080 potentials.

it still gets 80 - 90% of the way there. Sure you probably aren't going to run this thing in turbo mode in practice but throttle it down a bit and it's still going to perform better than a fully clocked 4060 or 4070 mobile and you will get the benefit of more VRAM. Running at 60 watts or higher the 4080 will actually generate more frames per watt than either other those cards. Since the TDP limits on the G14 model are the same across each model and this model actually is outfitted with better cooling, you're actually better off going with the higher end card here.

By all means if you are looking for best overall performance go with a chonkier computer but if you want high performance in a small package I can't think of any better machine than this one.

I mean that's the whole selling point for the G14, the thin and sleek profile. Anyone can stick a 4080 in a chunky chasis.

Benchmarks and reviews state otherwise, the thermals of this chassis is very good. You're not leaving much on the table compared to larger notebooks.

You can flash the vbios of this laptop's 4080 to the Asus ROG Scar's 175W power limit, and then limit the power to 150W with Ghelper and have absolutely killer performance for nearly identical thermals to stock 125W vbios.

Just a reminder to folks that CES 2025 is in 3 days and the RTX 5000 laptops will be announced. No one knows yet if it will be just a refresh of the current 4-series Ada Lovelace or if they'll be on the new Blackwell. There's probably some value in waiting, but if you need a 14-inch gamer right now this is a pretty slick deal.

I have this laptop with the 4060. It's super quiet for the size. I upgraded the ram to 32gb and ssd to 4TB last year.

This is better than the 2024 G14 in a lot of ways. You can take advantage of more power and throttle it down a bit with Ghelper. That will still take advantage of more power than the 2024 version. Downside is single SSD and RAM slot. Also the mini led is a bit overkill. I would rather have the OLED. But its a good deal for a 4080 but they dont say anything about cosmetic condition so who knows

It's a strip down version of the RTX 4080. Thermals should be similar to the RXT 4070 version of this laptop.

If it was the price for the 4090 model that also has a mini LED screen, then it would've been a real deal, it's a 2 year old machine and next gen is around the corner, the price for that model should be lower by now.

16GB RAM is a deal breaker for me. I also prefer 4k screen for other reasons (I know gaming laptop mostly cannot handle 4k, but I would rather a 4k screen for other things and down to 2k for gaming)

Ther's one empty slot, you can spec this out to 40gb of ram.
