Just using a basic inflation calculator, it looks like you basically paid about the same as what these are selling for now.
In MY day I could buy a Quarter Pounder for $1!

At the risk of committing high treason, I much prefer the clean modern silverburst to the aged yellow Adam Jones variants. Seems like a great deal on a "my first LP".

Back in my day, when I was stationed in Korea (1999), you could buy these for $299. I in fact did buy one back then and it sounded and played great. Heavy as hell though. Going back to my nap now.

Truth. I bought one of these guitars 14 years ago and it had the alnico pickups in it and came with a nice case for $500. I sold the guitar but kept the case. Too heavy for me at this point in my life.

Agree. My son has this model in a different color combo. Great sounding guitar, beautiful, holds tune well and yes heavy, but that gives you great sustain

But you have to remember that average new name brand guitar prices were "probably" higher back then. We didn't have tons of choices of cheap guitars like today. You weren't buying a brand new Jackson for $250 like you can now from Adorama. It would be $500+ for the cheapest of the Jackson line. $299 was super cheap at that time for a brand new Les Paul knock off. Sure I probably could have haggled more with the Korean dude, but like someone else said I also got the nice case with it. So you have to deduct that as well.

Anyways my comment was more of a joke to make it sound like it was ancient times, but the guitar was nice in every way. Fit, finish, sound was great…..but it's a shoulder breaker unless you are a beast.

Was is a MIJ Epi? Those were some beauties back in late 90s, early 2000s. Basically a Gibson but made in Japan. 1 or 2 piece bodies with a maple cap...no weight relief and beefy.

100% agree! You can change the bridge pickup in this and, basically, have a better looking version of the Adam Jones model for less than half the price.

These seem like great guitars.
I wish they had the teardrop burst instead of the perimeter burst.

The Epiphone Adam Jones 1979 has the teardrop burst on front and back. Excellent guitars!
