Fantastic price. I have a 5427tg, same guitar but a guitar center exclusive color, and this was the price I paid and I haven't seen it this low since.

Great guitar, the pickups have that classic gretsch chime that people really love.

I thought the G5420 was what the GC/Musician's Friend G5427 exclusive became(???).
I have been going back and fourth between the G5655 and the G5420 (err G5422??)/G5427. The $450 Adorama price for the G5655 was really appealing, but I wanted black. I have been hoping the price comes back down on the G5427.
Should I go for one versus the other?
I think the G5655 has Broadtron pickups, solid center block construction, and thinner (1.75")/smaller body(?)
G5422/G5427 Filtertron pickups, trestle block construction, deeper (2.25")/larger body
I'm only 5'6" and wasn't sure if that extra 0.5" would make it uncomfortable to play.

No option here is bad, just really depends what pickups you want. The 542X has filter'trons and more of a chime. The broad'trons are darker and more like a traditional humbucker. Watch some youtube videos and see what you like.

That said, if you want to put something like TV jones pickups in, get something cheaper like a streamliner. I didn't want to mod the electronics in a hollowbody so I was happy with my choice.

Excellent deal—thank you! I had been eyeing this model for quite a while and couldn't resist, even though it's now made in China.

It's not the same guitar, yours is a single cut and a guitar center only model, c'mon man. Personally, I can only speak to the China builds with the FT-5E pups as to my 5203T 140 annie which I suspect got special attention as to QC. As far as the gold plating, have fun with that. A used Korean 5422T in chrome would be a better option imo. Stay away from any models that have moved to China with the Broadtrons like the 5655 unless you want a gibson that looks like a gretsch. Cheers.
