I dont know much about this type of thing.

Is this thing made of plastic? If so, does it break? or what's the weakest part of this thing?

When the snow is less than 4 inches, I just use my leaf blower and blow them away.
But if I get 15 inches of snow, I may need something like this.

15 inches is the width. I've had one of these for a couple years and love it. I can toss it on top of a 3 foot snow drift and it'll dig its way to the bottom. It's mostly plastic but it's flexible where it needs to be rather than brittle so it's actually really durable. The only negative thing at all is the requirement of a cord but I'd rather deal with that than worry about managing batteries for something used rarely

But if I get 15 inches of snow, I may need something like this.

I bought a ryobi battery powered single stage with 2x7.5ah batteries and it does a great job and no cord to worry about, but it's at least $500 more than this.

My Ryobi is plastic and seems to be holding up well, although the blade looks stronger than this Snow Joe overall the design looks about the same. I think for the money you will do fine and just take care where the snow plow puts the compacted ice at the end of the driveway. That's really the only part these have any trouble with. If the snow is really wet and heavy you just cut into it half the width of the blower at a time. 15" is already not super wide though and they probably limited it so it can get enough watts per inch from the power supply by design.

If it's snowing a lot, like you're going to get say 20", you just go out real quick in the middle of it and take care of it then. It's rare you'll get that much snow in most places anyway. Unless the wind is really bad just dress up warm and you'll be fine.

Pro tip: When snow blowing, some Costco merino wool socks, waterproof boots, thick gloves (like for snowboarding), hand warmers (like hot hands), a jacket that fits well (not too loose) and a beanie hat make alllllll the difference. I can be outside in well below freezing temps for ages and be totally fine as long as I'm dressed well. When planning for snow blowing watch for deals on these things also because they're just as important. No matter what blower you have you'll be crying if you're getting frostbitten doing it.

Can anyone explain the Walmart protection plan who has actually used the coverage for replacement?... It says the walmart plan starts on the date of purchase. And says if you are still under manufacturer warranty period, you will be referred to the manufacturer for warranty service instead??

So there's no point in it unless it's longer than the manufacturer warranty?

SnowJoe has a 2 year warranty. Walmart is offering a 2 year protection plan on this. (3 year also an option.) But again, during the first 2 years it says you have to use the manufacturer for warranty....so can anyone tell me the point of paying for the Walmart protection plan? At best it seems you could pick 3 years in this situation , and get a 1 year of Walmarts coverage at the end that way.

But it also says there is a flat deductible. But they don't say how much that will be...

Don't cheap out on an extension cord for this or any other higher amperage electric appliance. 100' of extension cord for this would require 14 gauge or thicker -- almost certainly not a cheap $20-30 extension cord, which would probably be 16 gauge at best.

I would get the Greenworks. Less passes to do the job being the widest.

100% agreed. Costco has good outdoor cords FYI

"DO NOT BUY", This thing on sale ever year, I got the same one, it works fine with light snow, but when you are pushing on heavy wet snow, the gear will break. Gear is made out of plastic, break after couple used. check amazon, got tons bad reviews.

The Snow Joe SJ623E (also 18" like the first link) gets a 1/5 on removal speed and owner satisfaction from Consumer Ratings. Total score is 43.

There's only 1 other reviewed electric, single stage snow blower, so not a lot to work off within the category.

However, $6 more than the deal for 5 more inches on the Greenworks would be my choice. Others have said it, but that's your best help with removal speed for an electric single stage.

I bought this years ago and just opened and used it this week. It worked well enough, much easier on your body than manually shoveling but not much faster.

There is one design flaw but it was easy for me to fix. The attachment on top that directs the snow only has one screw and a terrible twist lock to hold it in place. After it blew off the second time I decided to put a couple more screws of my own on the other side to hold it in place. You need short screws so that it can still be moved but it worked great after that.
