The way you posted makes it seem they raised the price from $99 but they lowered it to $49.99.

I purchased 2 when they were $99, and although locked for 1 year they've been working flawlessly for several months now on Tello using MKSD Ultra V5.6

I have got v5.7, it worked couple months and now it is hit or miss. Phone goes SOS no service often.

So, just to clarify: you can purchase this, pay for one month's service, let it lapse, and it automatically unlocks 12 months after initial activation?

I'm using mksd 5.6 also but found that only t mobile mvnos like mint and tello work on it. Any Verizon based ones didn't.
