good deal if you need it. amazon has this set for 400$ now, and other "classic" sets with even less knives for around 400$.

Both competitor brands, German (for the most part) so not as sharp angle of bevel as Japanese counterparts like shun and miyabi). Which is good if you're hard on your knives cause less chances of chipping. Make sure the one you get are actually forged in Solingin Germany and compare the two knives equally. Both companies make China ones which are overpriced junk. Opt for either Seki City, Japan or Solingin,Germany. Make sure it's clear they are forged there and not just assembled or something else. Anything made in those two places is of high quality. If you want these brands and end up getting a China line, you're better off paying less and going with a Victorinox set.

That being said, last i checked, wustof classic and classic ikon are German made. I also believe zwilling bought miyabi? So they are also present Japan? I could be wrong, my info is outdated by several years.

To whom it may concern, the bolster goes down to the blade in these. So if you use the back end of your knife a lot, you may find it annoying because it'll crush your food if it's far too back. Just something that annoys me personally and I look for knives with the blade all the way through. Hopefully this helps someone out that didn't notice that.

When a "bolster goes down to the blade," it means the metal piece connecting the knife handle to the blade, called the bolster, extends further down the blade than usual, sometimes even reaching the heel of the blade, effectively creating a protective finger guard at the base of the cutting edge

How do you tell if these are forged in Germany and not China?

See that pic in the Woot offering? Zoom in on the blades. See where it says "Made in Solingen/ Germany"?
If the knives that I receive-- I ordered a set at this price-- don't say the same thing, I'll be returning them pronto. If they look like the ad, I'll know that I've gotten what I'd been promised. 😎

How good of a deal this is? I'm thinking about it, but not sure if it is worth it. I've also been waiting for a good Zwilling twin deal

This is a great deal. These are German made and not just comparable to Zwiling but some prefer them to Zwiling. Just the chef's knife can be $130+ much less this whole set
