Yeah, I've noticed that any negative comments about the country of China seem to get automatic thumbs downs (has nothing to do with SD ownership or Mods, but members who I suspect... let me just say, may not live in the United States). Anywho, anyone can do with the information what they like. If you track my comment history, I made similar comments years ago on a Huawei Matebook FP deal post. I mentioned years ago that Huawei was a threat and linked to foreign spying from China. My comments got a plethora of downvotes, but I wonder how people that bought a Huawei Matebook feel after the company received a total ban by the US govt. Also, to clarify, I'm not even saying not to buy a Lenovo laptop... but I would warn you that if you work for an American technology company in the IT area, I'd probably not use a Lenovo as my work laptop.

My previous model doesn't last the battery. Not sure if this has improved.

Fan noise was audible when I got. Returned it. But at this price, it is worth it I guess. The overall build quality is good.

Good deal, so nothing against OP, but has anyone read about the Lenovo spying issue reported by Bloomberg?
Quote :
The Long Hack: How China Exploited a U.S. Tech Supplier

Another Pentagon supplier that received attention was China's Lenovo Group Ltd. In 2008, U.S. investigators found that military units in Iraq were using Lenovo laptops in which the hardware had been altered. The discovery surfaced later in little-noticed testimony during a U.S. criminal case—a rare public description of a Chinese hardware hack.
"A large amount of Lenovo laptops were sold to the U.S. military that had a chip encrypted on the motherboard that would record all the data that was being inputted into that laptop and send it back to China," Lee Chieffalo, who managed a Marine network operations center near Fallujah, Iraq, testified during that 2010 case. "That was a huge security breach. We don't have any idea how much data they got, but we had to take all those systems off the network."
Three former U.S. officials confirmed Chieffalo's description of an added chip on Lenovo motherboards. The episode was a warning to the U.S. government about altered hardware, they said.

Thanks for the information. I have purchased and likely will again purchase lenovo laptops. It would be helpful if the people that down thumbed your comment would give a reason for the dislike.

Pretty sure it is cheaper and has less warranty problems (either coming loose or DIY'ers jacking up the machine trying to upgrade)....also allows for much slimmer mobo for small formfactor devices like 2-in-1's. Pretty much every MFG in this niche / price range has switched to soldered RAM.

FWIW I have had 4 Lenovo Yoga's in the last few years, (1) 5i and (3) 7i's, all have been great and to date none of the "hInGeS" have exploded Wink

Like RippyNY alluded to my current i7's (with a 8845HS) battery doesn't last anywhere near as long as the i7-1355u I replaced. I think the downgrade from the OLED screen might be some of that, who knows.

Do you find the models like this one are adequate for everyday use? I would mainly use it for a small business….no gaming or editing etc. I did read a review which said the screen colors and brightness are lackluster. Thoughts?

The 9i 2-1 is a lot lighter and more portable. High res OLED screen. Also nicer build quality. If you're not looking for a light/portable laptop, don't really care about screen quality, and just want a bigger screen in general, the 7i 16" makes sense.

I use them all day for light gaming, home office, some 3D printing related stuff, etc. Screen is plenty bright for me even when using outside but if you are trying to watch a movie under a noon sun you may be disappointed. But you'll probably be disappointed with any other machine in this price range, especially a touch screen. Those are pretty hard to find with an amazing screen at $700-ish unless you want to take a big hit on other specs or step back several years on model.

Personally I do not care if the laptop is a 2-in-1 but the touch screen and backlit keyboard are a must so the Yoga line has served me well.

FWIW, my work Dell 5440 has a far worse screen than my current 14AHP9. My last Yoga was a OLED which did have a better screen than both but not enough to write home about. Of course price being (roughly) equal I would go with a OLED though.

I've tried googling and reading up on the Intel Ultra naming scheme but I'm still confused by it all. I feel like you need a flowchart just to figure out what each Intel cpu does now.

Cuz no one gives a shit. You're tracked by either the Chinese or the US, if you're on the internet or have any technology at all. Get over it and move on.

Amen! And it gets worse every year. Now they keep adding more layers and schemes (while not abandoning the old ones).

I also don't get how sometimes processors that shouldn't outperform others (based on model #) still manage to. I have seen review benchmarks of i5 outperform apples to apples benchmarks of the i7's....in the same generation. Makes no sense unless you are talking about overclocking and 'silicon lottery' type stuff.
