Oh man. Got me excited for a minute as I too had been waiting for another good 16TB+ sale. Came right here when I saw the email alert, but missed SAS in the title.

I can't do SAS in my servers, so the wait continues!
If you have a space available for a PCIE card you will be able to slot an adapter in.
If you need a PCIE HBA (Host Bus Adapter) card on the cheap, you can get them from ebay for around $25-40 for an LSI 92xx 8i variant. As an example, I picked up a SuperMicro AOC-S2308L-L8i for under $40 in January with 2x SATA breakout cables.

You can buy SAS breakout cables for around $12-15 for two Mini SAS 36P SFF-8087 to 4 SFF-8482 Connectors With SATA Power Cable 3FT 1M

Note that IBM, HP, Dell, Lenovo, and Fujitsu also have their own variants of LSI 92xx cards which should come pre-flashed in IT mode. Make sure to update the BIOS of the cards as soon as you get them.

Also make sure you have some kind of active cooling fan on the cards since they are designed to be in a server with lots of airflow. You can either buy a cheap 40mm 3 pin fan or use PCI slot fan to keep the card cool, otherwise you might run into overheating issues

You can find more info on reddit r/DataHoarder or r/unRAID for suggestions and tips of recommended cards.

And some sad cables? Power is the same as SATA drives?

What does Renewed actually mean? GHD website does not provide clarification anywhere.
It is a little strange that the workload is 550 TB/yr while the warranty is 300 TB/yr. Does anyway know what the power draw actually is? The product listing just states "Lowest 16 TB power consumption"...

Well eBay had a refurbished with 0 hours SATA 14tb hard drive on sale around Christmas for $105. It has a 5 year warranty too. Wish I would have picked several up.

"For SAS, the two connector segments (power and data) were merged, which makes it possible to attach a SATA drive to a SAS controller using the continuous(SAS) connector known as a SFF-8482 connector, but you cannot hook up a SAS hard drive to a SATA controller."

Guess that's a no go? Was hoping there are "reverse HBA card"

Realistically, no. You could hack something together but by the time you do so you're going to spend far more than if you'd just bought SATA drives in the first place.

Well... in for 12 I guess. One of my servers could use some storage and then I can flip my Synology full of 14TB drives.
