Just received a text from T-Mobile that reads:

T-Mobile: For the first time in nearly a decade, we're making an update to the price of some of our older monthly service plans. Starting on 4/2/2025, your phone plan will increase by $5 per line per month. You'll keep all the benefits you currently enjoy, and your rate plan type and bill due date remain the same. For more information, visit...

Which lands at a page with the following:

At T-Mobile, you pay less and get more.
While some of our competitors have announced multiple price increases – 10 in two years between AT&T and Verizon – for the first time in nearly a decade, T-Mobile is making small adjustments to prices on some of our older monthly service plans.
Our commitment to delivering the best value isn't changing and never will. Even with these updates, T-Mobile customers still save an average of 20% compared to AT&T and Verizon on comparable wireless and streaming services—while continuing to enjoy America's leading 5G network and award-winning customer experience.
Thanks for being with us.

FYI I've been on Magenta for years. I currently pay $240/month for 10 lines (including some free lines) and 5G Home Internet.

I have been tracking my plan price before and after the price increase and after adding the free line. I noticed that it showed a $45 increase(9 lines) and now $50 (with 10 lines). This makes me think that perhaps all of the free lines won't be free after all; they would be $5 each. In other words, the free line $30 discount would remain the same, while the line cost would become $35.

Also earlier this morning around 6am PST there was a banner in the T-Life app on the home page section of 3 women in a lowrider with a message saying you get a free line for a limited time offer and call to redeem today. Anyone see the banner too or call in and get it?Banner has since been removed
Update: Called the number in the banner and got the free line added. All fees were waived and sim will arrive by monday. Adding or removing lines does not affect the price lock gaurantee on certain accounts.

How convenient this increase happens mere weeks after they enticed lots of fools on legacy plans, myself included, into the 24 month monthly trade-in credits.

I was just thinking the same thing, we upgraded (two phones) as well. Now it's going to cost us an extra $25 / month (we have 5 lines.)

Here may be why T-Mobile wanted to increase the price….also in April:

For everyone who received the text message, does the new total plan price put you closer to what you would pay if you switched to Go5g or Go5g Plus? Or does it go over? I'm guessing they are trying to push everyone on a legacy plan to finally cave and switch to the current plans.

I'm still on Family Match Promo 10GB Simple Choice NA. Anyone one with a SC plan got a text for the increase yet? I'm waiting for the dreaded text

Even with the $5/line increase SC will be way cheaper (at least half as much) as their cheapest Go5G crap.

Once the rate is close to Verizon's I'm jumping ship. Upgraded to Pixel 9 and iPhone 16 so I'll be hanging around at least until I get all my credits

I wonder if this might be a case for a class action lawsuit. I need to do some digging, but when I signed up for my plan about 10+ years ago, it clearly said the price will NEVER increase. It already went from $130 a month back then to now $150 a month. This will put me at $165 a month.

Right? "First time in nearly a decade" is a lie within a lie.

More people need to be talking about this! I got this too. Posted it here.

With this deal, after the increase, I've got T-Mobile One plan with 8 lines and will be paying $150 plus $8.50 for Netflix.
The way it breaks down is my original 4 lines from 2017 cost $45 each after the increase and after autopay discount. 3 of those lines get $10 kick back discount each for lower data usage. 3 lines were from previous 'get a line on us' deals which was confirmed to not be subject to the $5 increase. 1 of the lines is brand new with the BYOD free line I just took advantage of today.

I can't fault T-Mobile, good service, great international coverage when I travel (free data and texting).

So the increase only applies to the paid lines and not the free lines, right?

That's what the rep told me. Also confirmed by telling me the estimated next bill after the increase and the math worked out.

That would be much more bearable. Text I received today said $5 per line per month. I'm on an older Family Choice plan.

The reps there are all idiots. If you call 5 more times you will get 5 more different answers. It's so bad that it seems they have notes in the system telling the rep to say something different than the last rep.
