Just received a text from T-Mobile that reads:

T-Mobile: For the first time in nearly a decade, we're making an update to the price of some of our older monthly service plans. Starting on 4/2/2025, your phone plan will increase by $5 per line per month. You'll keep all the benefits you currently enjoy, and your rate plan type and bill due date remain the same. For more information, visit...

Which lands at a page with the following:

At T-Mobile, you pay less and get more.
While some of our competitors have announced multiple price increases – 10 in two years between AT&T and Verizon – for the first time in nearly a decade, T-Mobile is making small adjustments to prices on some of our older monthly service plans.
Our commitment to delivering the best value isn't changing and never will. Even with these updates, T-Mobile customers still save an average of 20% compared to AT&T and Verizon on comparable wireless and streaming services—while continuing to enjoy America's leading 5G network and award-winning customer experience.
Thanks for being with us.

FYI I've been on Magenta for years. I currently pay $240/month for 10 lines (including some free lines) and 5G Home Internet.

I have been tracking my plan price before and after the price increase and after adding the free line. I noticed that it showed a $45 increase(9 lines) and now $50 (with 10 lines). This makes me think that perhaps all of the free lines won't be free after all; they would be $5 each. In other words, the free line $30 discount would remain the same, while the line cost would become $35.

On magenta 55+. Also got text about $5 increase per line starting april 2.. Yes it was price never go up advertised all over ads and tv about 7 years ago on magenta 55+.

So the price lock guarantee the lawyers must have got a hold of and modified to be if the price does go up then we'll u can cancel.

Yes let's twist the guarantee wording cause who is gonna fight them over five bucks... where a price lock guarantee is not a guarantee.

Have 3 phones on 55+ and got the text. Really only kept overpaying for them for years because I share with some elderlies in another state and this was the simplest solution to manage them (they barely use their phone). Also, the international data is great.

Dodged their last scam to "alter the deal" of removing the autopay discount by paying most of the balance by credit card and letting the rest pay pennies by bank. But this BS of another $15/month overcharge is unfortunately going to make me have to get off my butt and dump them. Hopefully Verizon offers something reasonable, as they have much better coverage in my state and within subway tunnels. I'll have to bite the bullet and buy travel eSIMs but should come out waaaay ahead.

Since Tmobile seems to give away all my private data a few times a year I might be lonelier for lack of scam calls, but I'll find a way to cope.

On SC plan. Wonder how they can charge $5 for each free line when these lines are technically FREE to begin with, other than the requisite taxes and fees. This is begging for a lawsuit.

Would it make sense switching to essential plan 4 lines for $100? the only issue I see this plan do not offer international data. Text only

Essential is lower priority.

Can someone explain to me what a "free line" is? Because T-mobile is currently offering me one, and I'm nervous to accept something i don't understand.

To my understanding free lines will not see increase. U can probably still get a free device.

I have the one plus and I believe they will charge you 8 lines x $5 = $40 more per month or $480 more a year.

I have 4 lines and 2 free lines. So $30 more per month.

Free line do not have price increase..Plus if they want to charge me $5 for free line then they also have to honor kickback on the free lines so I will start making $5 back for each line.lol..

For those who say there is no kickback on free line.. I do see in T-life kickback option added under line details.I made sure when I got those added every line way back.

TMO stopped separating my free lines from paid on my Magenta bill - they list a single charge for all lines rather than breaking them out one by one. To me this meant all lines will see the $5 increase, including my free lines. I called customer service and they confirmed that even my free lines will now be $5/each.

I pay $15/mo for Mint on prepaid (5GB). If you have multiple lines you can pay quarterly and get the yearly price. This keeps you on the T-Mobile network.

Another company I use is Red Pocket. $10/mo for 1GB, $20 for 10GB of data. Nice thing about Red Pocket is you can choose between 3 networks. Useful since T-Mobile isn't great in BFE.

Only problem with Mint is it is owned by T-Mobile. So they will probably increase their prices eventually to keep you from switching.

All my free lines still have their related promo codes listed next to each. Also, the SC plan was a 2-line plan so no way for tmo to claim that the free lines are part of that plan to begin with. To tag on charges on these lines run contrary to these lines' characterization. Of course, they can always bury the $5 in abstract taxes.

I have only 1 free line in our family plan, and it gets a $10 credit to make it free, but the taxes on it costs about $4.50 give or take each month. So, it's not really "free" but you get the point Smilie
