Allegedly I have been refilling these non-refillable cylinders for decades. Never did the freeze the small tank, warm the big tank thing and never did I ever once mess with the over pressure safety pin - just refilled and whatever volume was there I just accepted. A toothpick or similar non-metallic object can be used to release pressure from the screw in valve before refilling for a more complete fill. After a refill listen for a leak. I had 1 eventually develop a leak and discarded it. I do write the date on the small tank when I acquired it and have at least a dozen that are 10 years old that still hold pressure just fine and a total of at least 30. Allegedly, of course.
To the people wondering how long these last in specific barbecues or stoves, these have approximately 21,000 BTUs per 1 lb cylinder. So If your barbecue is 10,000 BTUs it will run it for a little over 2 hours on high. Most camping stoves have 2 10,000 BTU burners, so it would run a stove for about an hour running both burners at max.
Yep Coleman has been running basically just on profit from these disposable propane bottles for like 30 years now. Even at this price youre paying over $60 for 20 lbs, that at a refill shop would cost you just $15. Add to that, theyre very difficult to properly recycle, and the ban on single use is basically just a wake up call to anyone foolish enough to still be buying and tossing these like theyre used paper towels.

What you will see in 2028 is, all of a sudden reusable 1 lb bottles and refill hoses will as if by magic, be reasonably priced and sold at every sporting goods store. The only reason they arent today is one part sheer corporate greed, and one part laziness.

How long do these typically last for those typical 2 or 3 burner camp stoves?

I picked up a 2 burner stove on clearance real cheap several months ago to stash away for hurricanes and such. Intended to get an adapter to hook up the regular 20lb tanks for grills and such but haven't yet. If these 3 packs or even the 2 packs you normally see for this price is enough to last cooking with 1 burner once or occasionally twice a day, maybe occasionally both burners, for up to 2 weeks, just grabbing these small proper bottles might be a little more convenient.

Blowtorch is very general. Your blowtorch might be different from my blowtorch. If you look at the ad and scroll through the pictures you'll see the different uses including the use of a "blowtorch"

Pretty decent deal. Sams is I think a 2-pack for ~$20 right now. If daring, find a video to safely refill from a 20# tank at 50c per fill.

Good Price, but I am on a Target boycott right now. Never thought I would actually boycott a store before, but I did it.

I thought you were joking about CA until I looked it up. I swear children are running that place.

I've never used or purchased these before. How do we go about getting refills?
