I envy anyone playing this for the first time. Best sci-fi story ever told, IMHO.

As someone who didn't have nostalgia for the series, but bought it to play through the trilogy, Mass Effect 1 felt rough to get through. BUT, if you can manage it, Mass Effect 2 utilizes some decisions from it that really round it out. I'm in the midst of 3, but 2 is really the one that feels special and is 100% worth it alone.

Agreed.

The original ME1 definitely brought over a lot of KOTOR in the way battles looked and played out. LE brushed it up though and it's much better for QOL, but it's still got the bones of a much older game.

ME2 and 3 reworked the battles from the ground up to make it much more like a modern 3rd person shooter. You can easily place your party members where they need to go and the battles are way more fast paced.

This is great info for prospective players. I played the games around the time they came out and then replayed with the Legendary Edition a couple years ago and generally had the same take. The first game has a slower pace and inferior gameplay compared to the sequels, but there are some good story moments and it does a lot of worldbuilding for the sequels.

Thanks for this information, I have played ME1 3 times and always stopped once I leave the citadel in the beginning of the game... Can't get past the intro even though knowing how good the series is. I might have to buy it to finally get to the second game

ME2 was my fav. Miranda FTW

I almost bit on this, I knew I had ME2 but didn't know about the rest. Turns out I already have this on my EA account.

Definitely a must play if you've not touched these or only did Andromeda (blah)

This series is incredible, but I haven't been able to go back to it. My dog got sick while I was in the middle of part 2, and when I hear the opening theme music at the title screen it's too much and reminds me that he was curling up by my feet (something he never really did before) as if he knew, before I did. Maybe one day I'll go back to it. This was 3 or so years ago.

Worth noting if you're more of a PC gamer that the PC version of this routinely goes on sale for $6 especially closer to Christmastime around the Steam Winter sales (though if you're going to do the PC version you might as well buy it directly from the EA store where it will probably also be $6.. it's rare but some steam users have complained bitterly about having problems accessing the game whereupon if you're buying right from the publisher's storefront, EA, then you eliminate that problem or hopefully so .. though it does add another game program launcher type thing to your list of programs which might be irritating for some).

Everyone beat me to it in terms of saying how awesome this game is .. the graphics are absolutely dated so don't let the "legendary edition" part fool you in that regard , even say rebooted Tomb Raider year 2013 will look way better than Mass Effect 3.. but if you're not put off by the graphics especially in Mass Effect One (I mention this only because I haven't been able to get my kids to play it no matter how often I talk about how amazing the storyline is they just can't get past the dated graphics ) , the storytelling and worldbuilding as others have pointed out is amazing..

My first experience with it was playing mass effect 2 (yep played it out of order) and I loved that so much I bought ME1, played that, went back and played ME 2 again (your choices from ME1 carry over into ME2 and in turn your choices from ME2 carry over into ME3) and followed that with ME3.. I bought the original versions of the games way before this Legendary Version came out and the great thing about the Legendary Version is that it includes all the DLC that you used to need to purchase individually from the games.
