Must use the app for time and temp controls.
No on-device control for that.

Edit: TD because...you disagree/don't find this helpful? or you dislike this aspect of the product? 😆
it's true regardless. the post didn't have that detail at the time I posted.
You don't have to pay to use it in bluetooth range supposedly. You only have to pay if you want the recipes/guides/remote control if you're out of the house.
I have one of the original Anovas from years ago, was notified last year it would no longer be supported by the app, so I guess I can't manage it from the app anymore . At least I have physical controls on the device and I basically never used the app anyway, but what do you do with this thing when the app no longer supports it?.

Does that mean you have to pay that to use it?

Correct - via the last thread

"...controls for temp and time are through the app so you must connect through your phone by Bluetooth. The subscription service is for access to more information as well as internet via wi-fi so you can monitor cooking from farther distances than you can reach from just bluetooth (away from the house, e.g.). You can use this without paying for the subscription service."

That deal at $30 had a +41 score, so hopefully this doesn't sell out quickly as it's $10 less.

I bought it last time for $30 and then returned it. I was never able to connect it to my 16pro max or even the 15 pro max for work. And I'm pretty tech savvy.

They go Chapter 11 then all bets are off for remote access. With BT? Side load apk possible, iOS ugh.

Source - I made it up.

I bought one of their old ones in 2016. I don't use it a ton, but it still works. I think it was $120 at the time.

This, for $20, is a steal. I kinda want to get it since it's a smaller form, and easier to use on some of my pots, but already having one I'm holding back. Hopefully it sells out before I change my mind.

Built in wifi but locked behind a paywall is crazy

Good deal if you're one of the few people on earth who doesn't have a sous vide machine. My og anova is still working perfectly.

I bought the cooker version, and honestly, I never used the remote setup over wifi. If that is the main difference between this and the cooker, I would definitely go with this

Will they price match themselves? I purchased this from Walmart about a week ago.

This only works with the app. The android app has 3.6*. There are a few complaints about the change to a subscription model, but a majority seem to complain about connection issues and the timer not working. Basically it's a crapshoot if this works on your phone or if it's a $20 paperweight.
