I can't believe Panasonic is still lying to people about the 2100 recharge cycle. That number is based on highly outdated protocols from 2011. In 2017, the protocol was changed to reflect real usage and that number dropped dramatically to 150. Look at the small print in the 4th Amazon slide:

https://m.media-amazon.com/images...L1500_.jpg

Even the Panasonic Eneloop Q&A admits this, although they claim 600 cycles. But that's still far from the HUGE "2100" printed on the package.

https://www.panasonic.com/global/...t_features

"Can eneloop be charged up to 2,100 times?

A: The estimated battery life (number of cycles) for eneloop was initially based on the test conditions specified in the IEC standard (IEC61951-2 2011, Section 7.5.4.1), suggesting up to 2,100 charging cycles. However, the IEC standard was revised in 2017 to more stringent test conditions that better reflect real-world usage. Under these updated conditions, the number of cycles is approximately 600. The actual longevity of the batteries also depends on usage patterns, as the discharge capacity gradually decreases with the number of charge cycles."

Of note, higher in the Q&A, there's another entry about recharge cycles. In that one, it merely admitted that protocols have changed and the number is now less -- without mentioning the new number. Looks like they were still trying to be less than honest when they started writing the Q&A.

PANASONIC: STOP LYING!!! IT'S NOT 2100. IT'S 150-600!!!
How is this a deal? Keepa shows it has been this price for the past three months...

Naw, those were nickel cadmium batterys back then. The first consumer-grade NiMH cells weren't available commercially uintil 1989.

I don't know about the AAA (I have a bunch)

But I do have 4 AA's on cycle that have about 450 charge cycles and they seem just as strong.

Are eneloop still worth the premium? I've been using nothing but for over a decade, but have some of the Chinese brands like EBL or Tenergy caught up?

I've sworn by eneloops but getting a bit disillusioned lately with batteries that refuse to charge in their chargers. They have multiple cycles but I doubt anywhere near the claimed maximum. Used to be just the Pros but lately had similar issues with some of the regular version.

Did you leave your batteries at low voltage without charging for a long period of time? Rechargeable batteries won't be able to take charge once go below certain voltage. My first sets of Eneloops bought more than a decade ago still working great.

Might be related?

I've had eneloops since 2009/2010 that have drained to 0 - my charger reads them as null but to get them started I "jump" them (i.e. short) with a paper clip and a fresh alkaline battery. It's only for a few seconds and the eneloop will start to charge again. It does hold a charge slightly less longer but a discharge/refresh cycle works - takes about 4 days to happen though.

I go through a lot of batteries with flashlights, they seem to hold up well (good batteries I can see all 5 levels of brightness, when it starts to go/low I only get 3 llevels of brightness).
