We have 3 of these. Used properly, they last forever. Don't recall what we paid for them, as each were bought a different times.

It depends on how you use it and how often you use it. Or maybe the bolt on it is loose and just needs to be tightened. If it's loose, your cuts won't be straight and it'll cause it dull faster. But not too tight or it won't open/close
