The short story this amazing movie is based off of is very boring and talks more about linguistics than promote the story

It's also very different from the movie

I'd skip it, despite the movie being one of my favorites

Two days ago, I pulled up to the "Smartless" podcast (for first time in 3-4 months), scrolled thru their list of guests and saw one with Denis Villeneuve (director of the movie) and from a random question, he mentioned that he read this book as a youth, found it beautiful and made the movie. I loved the movie, love his movies and thought "I can read a short story". I spent today looking for the it, found it was part of a larger book and decided I'll see if it's at my local library.

And it pops up here for $2. It just further confirms my suspicion that we are living in a simulated world!

Thanks OP!

similar situations happens to me not infrequently, I tried to share the idea with others. It's better to think it's all chance bias or this all part of the matrix ?

Great, now we're going to have people who will never read the story (not a novel, a short story) voice their opinion just because they've seen the movie.

Contrary to some other opinions, I found the short story very good. Both it and the movie try to hit the out-of-linear-time mindset in different ways. I think it's best to have both as the concepts are super interesting, and take some time of sitting with them.

This story is great, and it's not even the best one in this collection. I read it recently, and really there aren't any bad ones. I really enjoyed the whole collection.
