I used to buy these all the time until they were tested by a third party last year and they were found to have lead, mercury and cadmium in them. This is concerning and I stopped buying them because when I contacted Aloha they basically gas lighted me with some nonsense of a reply.
If you look at there own site under FAQ, they basically say that they have less heavy metals then other brands but what exactly does that even mean??? and against what other brands??? Do you have some sort of insight as to what other brands have as far as heavy metal content? I think not! This is like saying I have the best house on the absolute worse street in the United States.
I also asked them to provide the average levels of heavy metals in the bars I purchase so I can decide if that level is safe/acceptable to me, they refused to provided that. I also asked them if they are at higher levels then what the state of CA requires since there is a lawsuit against them for this and why are you not putting the required label on your product, they did not answer that at all. I made it clear in my letter to them to let the consumer decide if they want to eat Lead, etc as there is no "safe amount" of lead at all especially for children.
You can easily find all this information on a simple google search about Aloha, that's how I found out about it and you can see the court docs posted as well. I had high regards for Aloha these past few years buying there protein bars and I am very disappointed at the response they sent me. Why not be honest if you have nothing to hide about the heavy metal content in your bars/protein powder? Sadly, another company off my purchase list.

Dude have you ever actually read Prop 65? It has some good things but its daily intake recommendations are total BS. The prop was written by dolts and lawyers with ZERO science background.

To give you an example of just how dumb some of the prop daily intake requirements are, it recommends 12.5mcg of lead per day for adults. Well guess what? A serving of nuts has like 20mcg of lead. Collard greens? 30mcg. A single potato? You are good as dead!! Basically anything that is root based would put you over the limit. Other stuff also has high lead including chocolate, rice, cereals, spices, fish, and broths. So good luck to you if you want to follow Prop 65. You will die of hunger before cancer does anything.

Prop 65 was also very politically motivated. It was meant to motivate people to vote and nothing more. In fact they didnt think it would pass because it had a lot of nonsense. For instance... guess who got an exception to it? Alcohol... which has a much higher propensity to cause cancer than anything listed in Prop 65. Go figure.

Back in the 90s I remember a comedian making fun of it. Dont remember who any more but the premise was the prop was so stupid that it became worthless by its own merit. Because EVERYTHING causes cancer, everyone started putting the label on EVERYTHING they made even if it had none of the chemicals listed in prop 65. This rendered the entire prop worthless. So the comedian made fun of the fact that according to Prop 65, coffee was just as bad for you as radioactive plutonium.

Depends on what you want. In terms of nutrition, these are better than candy bars but not as good as normal 20g protein bars that usually have 200kcal. But obviously, these taste better. Definitely not worth $2 each imho. You can get good protein bars for $1-$1.30 without any sales at all at Costco and Amazon... but again, they dont taste as good.

I don't disagree with what you wrote, I know they even have prop 65 for wood products that may have "potential" tiny amounts of saw dust on it. The thing that really got me was when I contacted Aloha to have them clarify exactly what levels of Heavy metals are in these bars so I can decide if I want to continue buying them. There response was not clear, basically avoiding answering most of my questions and they flat out refused to give me the avg amounts of heavy metals per bar type which they obviously know. That was the thing that really upset me as they refused to provide anything to make an informed decision on there product. I'm tired of consumers being in the dark about the products we buy and consume with the often times lack of transparency. If you already have on the FAQ section of your website that these products do contain some amount of heavy metals then why not provide the amounts so consumers can decide instead of saying we are lower then other products? I'm sure there lawyers told them to state that, etc, but I am also NOT going to support buying there $20-$30 boxes of bars any more after that reply. Of course, to each there own as to what you buy and consume...

FDA studies may be inaccurate too, but I'm more likely to believe them than someone who throws out numbers without any sources to back up the claims. If you do an internet or AI search on this, you'll see the FDA found that those food items may indeed have traces of lead from soil contamination and pollution that plants naturally absorb, but their levels are just a fraction of what you claimed. For instance, a medium-sized (200g) potato may have the 2 or 3mcg of lead, which even fits the strict guidelines for children per day. Obviously a single potato isn't killing anyone, although their high GI levels should be of more concern than their lead levels. I cannot comment on Prop 65 because I'm totally ignorant about what that was about and their claims, but I can say with convidence that your lead mcg numbers for the foods you specified are wildly exaggerated.

Honestly, I just found all this out about Aloha a few weeks ago and have not found something yet to replace it. A big problem if your going to use organic pumpkin seeds for protein is that >95% of all organic pumpkin seeds come from China which we all know has all sorts of contamination in there soil with heavy metals. It's not easy to find a low sugar, organic protein bar. There are a few newer bars out but I need to do some research on them so have not been eating any bars these past few weeks but eating other protein sources instead.

I consume protein supplements quite a bit and found that vegan sources have way more heavy metal contaminants in them. Brands like Orgain and Aloha have products that are loaded with them so I avoid at all costs. If you're going to take protein supplements, it's best to stick to whey as the main source.

Your welcome! Please let us know how they respond to your letter ? Ask them the obvious to the point questions that they glossed over when I wrote them. One thing I forgot to ask them is: How can you advertise on your box, "Full of the everything your body needs and free from anything it doesn't" ...This is right on the box of Aloha protein bars! Last I checked our bodies certainly do NOT need Lead , Mercury and Cadmium. It would be concerning if it was just lead but it's all three.

Thanks , do you recommend any companies that are proven trustworthy ? Is there any whey based low suger bars out there?
