I almost bought this for my son and I to play together, then I read the reviews. Oof.

Where did you read the reviews? The Amazon reviews are good. The Steam reviews are mixed, but the bad reviews are all one sentence long and the good reviews make it sound fun.

Is there a lot of reading involved in this game? Looking to get this for my 4 year old. He loves TMNT cowabunga collection on the switch and plays without fuss. Wondering if this will be the same where he can just play through or is it slow paced with reading and lots of prompts.

This is another game where I find it very hard to tell which critical reviews are sincere (there are definitely some, it sounds buggy) and which are the usual crowd of people whining about "wokeness", this time that they changed the ethnicity of the voice cast of a cartoon about a mutated turtle ninja. There are enough specifics in the Xbox reviews at least that it seems to have some technical problems. That sucks, because I sincerely loved the movie this is based on.

I generally trust Steam reviews, but my friends and I have played it on Switch. The main gripe we had was the number of cut scenes and the lack of fluid character control. You spend more time listening to characters talking than the actual gameplay. Additionally, 1P and 2P will switch between characters after scene changes, but it makes no sense. As an example:

Scene 1: 1P controls Donatello and 2P controls Leonardo
Scene 2: 1P controls of Michelangelo and 2P controls Raphael.
Scene 3: 1P now controls Leonardo and 2P now controls Donatello.

You'd think that 1P would always have control of at least the same two characters and so would 2P, but that's not the case. Both players are forced to swap between characters throughout stages. This can be especially annoying for younger players who are expecting to control the same character throughout the game. Heck, even as adults, we found it really irritating.

Most of the bad ones I read seemed to be more glitch related with the switch console, freezes/crashes & long load times, other systems seem to be good, for $15 hell yeah, my family loves tmnt.
