Super reliable reel and probably the best drag at this price point imo. I haven't purchased the recent models because my presidente from years past is still going strong with regular maintenance

Whats the difference between the current and 10 yr old model? Is the non current xt model much of an improvement over the current model?

This is a bit of a better deal on the XT. I have both the regular President and President XT models (several of each honestly, lol) and while they're both great, the XT is definitely a bit nicer. It feels better balanced (perhaps it's mental), and the bearings are definitely smoother. Worth the premium.

I got the president XT through the basspro deal. Be sure to check sizing if you're not used to pfleuger, I didn't realize the difference and ended up with a smaller than expected reel.

I have a president 25 for trout fishing and I adore it! They're like the Hondas of fishing reels

If you had even read the post or clicked on the link you'd see the sale is actually for several different reels of different prices and quality.

Care to elaborate which reel and what bad experience you had?

Probably more bearings and stainless steel ones if I had to guess. That being said, my ten year old one is great. I've got 15 or so of these reels on a bunch of my poles and the only one that's messed up is one that I dropped off the side of a mountain so the bail is bent but it still technically works lol.

I don't recommend the XT. Had 3 of them, all of them had the wooden handle bit crack and then break off, they're not good with any sort of moisture.

You're not the first person to state this, a lot of people have the handle actually fall off multiple times also. I only paid $50 for mine, but I think I'm going to return it based on reviews and also it just doesn't feel like a $100 reel that it's marketed as anyway.

Decent reel, I actually prefer the Daiwa Regel and the Okuma Ceymar prices being mostly equal, but have no issues picking up the President especially if it's cheaper.
