Got this through Woot a little cheaper but it was white. I like the black.

FYI. This pairs fine to an iPhone even though it's not advertised as ios compatible. It works perfect with the Delta emulator.

I'm guessing the answer is no, but has anyone tried to mod these to open wider like the GameSir G8. I like 8bitdo but these are just too small for 8 inch tablets.

I got this on the previous Woot sale for 27$ and it was definitely a bargain at that price. The controller feels really well made and everything just works whether it's the immediate connection, lack of input lag over BT and support for emulation apps. My only complain are the R/L keys being clicky so that spamming them (e.g. dashing in certain games) is not great but maybe it's just a matter of getting used to it
I'm using this with a 6.7" phone (Pixel 8P) and the controller easily fits the phone + a right angle USB-C adapter to allow the phone to charge while inside the controller.

In case anyone is curious, this does work with iOS. Even though it says android only. You won't be able to use the 8BitDo application like you were with their Bluetooth controller. However, all buttons, including the programmable buttons do work and they allow you to program them using the extra buttons on the controller. Honestly, I prefer this one over my GameSir G8 because the cost is much greater for the G8 however like someone else mentioned, the shoulder buttons are clicky however, the games I play don't require too much usage of the RB LB buttons. Build quality is not as good it feels a little hollow, but that affect functionality or durability any less.

For anyone playing WuWa, it won't work unless you pre-connect an a XBox controller on BT.

I know I'm being lazy, but I just want to straight up ask would this allow you to connect to the computer and use it like an Xbox controller in games

Got it from woot as well. It's fantastic. To note there is a bug with my samsung phone. There is horrific input lag with gboard. Issue goes away with the samsung keyboard.

Is your review the Tina review, because I just got to check in the reviews, then you said that and it's just like what she said

Here are my thoughts on this controller after using it for 2 weeks and having tried most controllers.

There are some nice things about it.

It's fairly well built and feels pretty comfortable to hold. The Hall sticks and triggers are also nice. It maintains its rigidity even when stretched to the max, and the stretch springs feel really nice. It also has a very nice plastic tab holding the phone from falling through, which some other controllers miss, and its weight isn't too heavy.

However, there are quite a few major downsides.

There's no rumble or vibrations of any kind, and the polling rate is insanely low at 66Hz, while all other phone controllers start at 125Hz. It only supports D-Input over Bluetooth. It can't be connected directly to a PC when game streaming to reduce input latency. And because it's D-Input, it isn't recognized in many native Android games that only support X-Input.

Another massive issue is the accompanying Android app, it's terrible.
The other Android app designed for their Ultimate controller is usable, unlike this one.

Then there are problems with Samsung phones and Gboard. When the controller is connected, the keyboard doesn't work at all, and the phone becomes laggy and freezes. For me, turning off Gboard fixed the buggy keyboard, but there are still many other issues with responsiveness and occasional freezing. Most of these issues went away when I switched from the S24 Ultra to the Galaxy S21.

There's a reason these dropped to $27 just 3 months after release (on woot). The GameSir G8 and other similar controllers are far better, even at twice the price. The only way such a barebones controller would sell well is if its list price was $30 or $25.
Overall, this controller is kind of disappointing, especially coming from 8BitDo, a brand I had come to know for their quality in everything. This controller is worse than their current lowest-priced regular-size controller, the 8BitDo Ultimate (far worse) just with a spot for a phone stuck onto it.

For those that have this controller, how's the latency? There are a number of reviews on Amazon complaining about bluetooth latency upwards of 10 sec.

I have not experienced anything like that.
I tried it with gamepass cloud streaming, steam link, and maybe a tiny bit of latency with gamepass, but it is cloud steaming

S25 ultra here, so

No latency that I can perceive. It's very usable. Maybe I'm not playing crazy competitive games. I do play CODM also but I see no differences from wired or BT. I'm on iOS. People on Amazon were attributing it to the g-board.
