What kind of growth? If it's hard water buildup, you can get a descaler for coffee machines.
Algae/mildew

Consider adding a few ounces of Swiffer wet jet fluid instead. It's easier on your floors and still drastically reduces the amount of algae/mildew. The clean tank stays crystal clear, and while the dirty tank will still accumulate some floaties of algae, its not enough to cause any nasty odor. I just do a quick rinse of the canister with a drop of dish soap after emptying and it's good as new. After getting our schedule dialed in, I only do emptying/filling maintenance about once a month.
We've had our refurbished revo for about 18 months now and everything still works great! In our home, I would argue it's on the same tier as the dishwasher and laundry machines for cleaning time savings.

I always add 1 drop of Dawn and 1/4 cup of vinegar to the clean water tank. There's no ordor or any buildup issue even though I only empty the dirty tank once a week
Keep in mind this is older and does not account for firmware updates which could have resolved some complaints on either device.
