Thread Details
As seenin sales here, VPN Secure was promoted many times on SlickDeals by SlickDeals staff with 'lifetime' VPN offer.
Think twice about these offers, posted by staff or otherwise.
From VPN Secure:
Wehope this message finds you well.
We'rereaching out today with transparency, respect, and a sincere ask 👉 for your understanding.
Twoyears ago, in May 2023, our team acquired VPN Secure, including the technology, domain, and customer database — but notthe liabilities.
Unfortunately, the previous owner did not disclose that thousands of Lifetime Deals (LTDs) hadbeen sold through platforms like StackSocial.
Wediscovered this only months later — when a large portion of our resources werestrained by these LTD accounts and high support volume from users who, thoughpart of the database, provided nosustaining income to help us improve and maintain theservice.
Toprotect server stability and support our active user base, we begandeactivating accounts that had been dormantfor over 6 months. While technically fair, this decisiontriggered a wave of negative reviews, impacting our reputation and theexperience of everyone — both free and paying users.
Despitethis, many of you showed us grace. We still remember a message from a user thattruly resonated:
"I understand 'lifetime' to mean the life of theseller. When the company was sold, their lifetime ended. This has happenedbefore with companies like Geni.com, whose lifetime plans were converted to5-year subscriptions after acquisition."
We'vetaken that to heart.

It's funny how they have "taken that to heart" but didn't convert our lifetime accounts to 5-year subscriptions. Terrible.

They state, "Unfortunately, the previous owner did not disclose that thousands of Lifetime Deals (LTDs) had been sold through platforms like StackSocial."
What? Was google down the day they bought the place?
They should have had a plan from day one. They could also do like KeepSolid, add new protocols and features and charge an upgrade to bring in more $$$ and still make the customer feel like they are getting value.
