Same CPU as the GL.Inet Beryl AX and Asus AX57 Go, a dual-core 1.3GHz Mediatek. Probably means similar performance to those for CPU-limited things like Wireguard throughput, give or take some more or less mature firmware.

I have prime and the prime visa but don't see 20% cb.

Edit: nevermind. It's in the additional rewards section at checkout.

See my comment above. This one is a little bit smaller, but as a tradeoff the firmware is less mature. It depends on what specific features you'd want, since GL.Inet has a long track record in this space and their firmware updates and features are way better than TP-Link's.

Serious question: why would I buy this for travel instead of just using my phone's hotspot everywhere I go? I can connect multiple devices to my phone with no problem, and I have a lot of data. It seems like these travel routers are less useful in 2025, unless I'm missing something.

This is to be used to share the WiFi connection from your hotel room, airline to all of your devices rather than paying for each device. Also provides more security and functionality

For me, also offers convenience if for example you bring gaming or other wifi devices on a trip. No need to individually add each apparatus to the hotel wifi, instead just set up the devices on the travel router ahead of time and then all that's needed when you reach the hotel is to connect the travel router to the hotel wifi.

I have the beryl and I really love it, the only thing that's kinda hard for me to understand on those is the lack of internal battery, that renders it pretty clunky if you intend to use on an airport, a nice 2/3-hour long battery would make this device perfect, other than that it's pretty great.

I have one as well. FWIW, when traveling, most people will carry a power bank. Beryl will run off the Baseus 65W 20000mAh bank that were $20 here a while ago. Probably a bit too much clunk with a built in battery, but I'm sure someone will make a travel router with it. But when running a VPN, and most people will, that's pretty CPU intensive, so not sure how much mileage you'll get out of a small internal battery.

I don't think it would add that much volume to the whole thing. I get that a power bank can easily power it, but it makes the whole setup unnecessarily clunky. I think that even a battery that can hold 1 hour would be enough, just for that wait at the airport when you don't really want to bother with their wifi. I still find it immensely useful traveling with it even without a battery though.

If you want built in battery, get glinet MUDI but it'll be much slower. I think AC750 speeds.

Connect it to public wifi (hotel, inflight, etc), then connect all your devices to it, then turn on OpenVPN/Wireguard and all your devices traffic are now tunneled through your home network. All your devices can also stream region restricted contents, via vpn, when you're outside of the US.

Because it's a travel router in general, not an airport router specifically. Beryl is already pretty big compared to some of their older models like the AR750S (OG Slate), and adding a battery on top of that would make it huge. Its main use case is for road warriors, so more people have it plugged into a hotel room outlet or a car compared to keeping it in their pockets and walking with it.
