While holding fewer bits and use the traditional bit geometry, there's a Makita set on Amazon with a 1/2" drill bit for $15.99.
This set contains multiples of the most commonly used bits, which should last quite a few years. If the "Quad edge tip" performances notably better than regular bit, this set may be a good purchase.

I'm as big a Milwaukee fan as you could expect to find, but I've owned these for years and have always found them pretty underwhelming.

Even just for basic drywall and pilot hole drilling. They work, but I find mt DeWalt and Bosch comparable bits to be much better.

These bits are straight up junk.
I've bought a lot of bits over the years and these are amongst some of the worst.
Very brittle, the "titanium" is no more than a decorative coating.
There are other impact drive drillbits out there that are far superior.

Also just titanium coated bits. But seems to be a good choice for someone's first set. https://www.amazon.com/Makita-B-6...0DER&gQT=1

Hex shank gets annoying quick for the smaller bits when you're used to being able to drill the full length of the bit

I get what you're saying. Being called "titanium" bits while actually just HSS with titanium coating, these surely won't last long. But at the price point, buy-for-life set just doesn't exist.

I see this as a good set for beginners or first-time homeowners to learn the technique, get a feel on heat control, break some bits along the way, and maybe even learn how to do drill bit sharpening. Given the best drill bit in the world, an inexperienced person will still ruin their first few bits all the same.

I have the same makita set, and it is excellent. I bought it in August of 2019 (I just checked my amazon purchase history), and I just barely replaced the set last month. Excellent value!

My one complaint is that the bits sit super tight in the holders, so you will want to loosen them up a tad by drilling them out.

Hi handyman beginner here. What is the purpose of hex shank drill bits? I assume they are for hex drivers, most or all of which are impact drivers and not drills. But these are drill bits. Are you meant to chuck these into drills? Or use them with your impact driver to … drill? I read all hex shank drill bits are just normal cylindrical bits that are glued or welded onto a hex shank, causing a weak point. So they are not better than normal drill bit. I am confused how I should be using these.

Yes, it's for the ease of being able to pop it in to your impact driver, and drill a hole. That way you don't need to carry around a whole separate drill.
