Never played Mafia before, but I assume for how much I've heard the name, that it's a pretty classic series. Does it play like GTA?

yes its basically a GTA game with 1930s italian mob new york setting. i never played 2 or 3 so cant comment on those but the original was a lot of fun. it played like GTA in the sense that it had a semi-open world feel and you could do mini missions and explore a bit doing things other than the main story line quests. the time period setting with the music and feel with old timey cars and clothing really made it great imo

i read a lot of steam negative steam reviews about these definitive editions though, people complaining that there was no real updates and the games were glitchy with bugs. if you have a machine that can run the original id opt for getting a CD from ebay or something and playing that way if the new steam versions arent any good.

The first game is great, and the definitive edition is pretty, especially on PC. The second game has a good story, but there isn't a damn thing to do in the open world. The third game is meh. I didn't think it was bad. It just wasn't great.

I still have the original Mafia game on CD I play on an old windows XP machine. One of my favorite games...The WWII version is a lot different than the first. Definitely a good trio of games if you like retro PC gaming, and a great price unless you sail the seas.
